Figured out my own way to get smithing up to 100!

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 9:36 am

Well I saw several duplicate item glitches and I have done the arrow collection off the companions for coin. It was taking forever, so I figured out a way to make my own coin fast!

Every so often a dragon will attack white run. Defeat the dragon and sell his scales and bones to the trader of Whiterun. Wait 2 or 3 days and another dragon will come. Kill it and repeat. The trader will have 700 coin every two days to give you. Once you get up to 100k coin, go to a smith and buy leather, leather straps and Iron.

Keep building iron daggers and leather braces. These are the cheapest and will raise your smithing up to 100 in no time!

I find it more fun to find the leather and iron myself. North of Whiterun, a mine called halted stream camp is full of iron ore just waiting to be mined. The plains are full of elk to be hunted too. personally though I prefer making jewlerry, you can make a lot of money from that, i reccomend the kolskeggr mine just east of markath, walked out of there with around 80 pieces of gold ore.

This is what everyone has been doing to train smithing. Besides the dragon part.

It's the fastest way I have found to make enough money to get up to 100k to get to 100 smithing...That or you can just mine like crazy, which would take you even longer

It tells you how to do it, doesn't tell you how to get the money....Once again, the dragon spawn in White run will get you enough money to do this, instead of the arrow collection at the companions camp, or the dupe book glitch in the sightless pit. It was more about how to get the money faster, then the smithing itself. The other ways take all day, unless you have 100k coin to do it already. /learn2read

This is not news, this is a bug that people have been abusing since release and is probably being patched next week.

Getting gold to 100K trough this method is "the fastest way" jesus christ. Smithing isnt that hard to lvl with warrior stone and well rested/lovers confort takes around 400 daggers to lvl to 100 + whatever armor/weapons you wanted to make from it, and guess what iron is incredibly cheap, and leather stripes are easy to make/cheap, besides having 100 smiting is completly pointless if you dont have armor or weapon trees lvled up, for example even legendary daedric armor will be around 200 armor or less, if you have low heavy armor skil (just to give one example), same for weapons.

But if you insist in powergaming smithing consider lvling enchanting at the same time, buy petty soul stones for 20 gold, and enchant the daggers with watever enchantment gives more money back, you will have full refund and lvl 2 crafting skills at same time, without ever having to farm for gold.

edit: takes around 200 magic items to get to 100 enchant using mage stone+ well rested/lovers confort.

Uh, the bug is iron daggers continuing to level you up after you reach a certain skill, that's not intended. Iron daggers are supposed to stop leveling you up that much after about skill level 50 or so. Confirmed by pete hines twitter.
How could you think that ISN'T a bug lol?

more enjoyable just to go at level 1 and wander around the countryside gathering ore, leather, soul gems and alchemy ingredients. Go far enough in the questline so you can buy the house in whiterun, but don't do the first dragon encounter unless you want them randomly showing up the rest of the game. Get the steed stone at level one and begin going to random caves, starting with the halted stream camp. Getting 5K for your house is priority number one. Alchemy is the real gold mine. Blue Butterfly Wing , Blue Mountain Flower , and Salt Pile combined make an expensive potion that levels the skill fast, and are very common items. Salt piles tend to be located in sacks and barrels, so search everywhere you go. Don't forget to pick up any and all soul gems too.

Store everything in your house until you have 250 iron ores, leather straps, 125 soul gems, and at least 150-200 of the 3 alchemy ingredients mentioned. Make sure you have the right mage stones activated when you finally raise these skills, and are well rested, something I didn't know about while I was smithing and enchanting. Only discovered it when I got to alchemy.

Everything you smith is a bug then, because when you do it with leather, it does the same. Guess all smithing is a bug in that case.

I agree with this cap on iron daggers. After 50 we should be making Orcish, and Advanced gear to level it up further and after 70 we should be making either Glass or Ebony, and at 90 Deadric gear to level it up to the max.

game is already long enough for a working advlt.. making it so you have to use advanced ores would be a bit tedius... doable with perhaps dwemer, but not so with ebony and rare ignots especially if it takes 5 or 6 to go up one level.

I leveled smithing to 100 not abusing iron daggers in 2 days. Ebony is easy to come by. I know of 3 mines that respawn in a week, resting isnt hard.

Nah, ebony ingots are not rare. Don't mine them - that takes forever. Just have some spare cash from selling banish enchanted gear and/or leveling alchemy's expensive potions (fortify health: Giant Toe + Wheat), and visit Skyrim's various blacksmiths. They have it in stock, usually 0~8 per 2 day cycle.

Nope. There are people who do not invest in smith perks and would STILL LIKE TO REACH 81 LEVEL.

If they are going to fix smithing leveling, will the same be true for Enchanting? Will we be required to use stronger gems to level up past 40, 50, etc? If so, it actually makes sense. Considering the Alchemy grind and how slowly it levels you. Maybe that's how it's supposed to be.

I would rather they make Master level really Master than fix this issue. My 42 mage with no crafting professions just tears through things on Master. Quite sad really.

I did not think about that. They then need to allow you to craft not so epic items from different bars. Maybe have daggers in each ore type haha.

Sure, just put in a huge diminishing returns on iron daggers for Smithing past 50 for those who do not wish to invest in Smithing perks.

Actually they just need to tied price with experience ,like in alchemy, and triple the experience needed. So smithing iron daggers is now 1/3 as fast while those with the perks and materials making advance equipment can level it at about same rate.

Actually if you can acquire banish and paralyze weapon enchantments, you can make a 2000+ gold enchanted iron dagger from just a petty soul gem.

This provides you endless money (legally) to buy whatever craft materials you need, including higher-end ones so you don't need to keep waiting for iron ingots to be restocked.

The problem with this method is that you are skipping a bunch of content in the game, and are missing out on good magic drops. If you travel around, do quests and dungeons, find word walls, mine along the way, not only will you make enough gold to level smithing, but you will get a bunch of good magic items.
