I find it difficult to play another character..

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 7:30 pm

I've stuck so many hours into my main character i find it difficult to play another character for long.. i'm a roleplayer and i find i can't focus on roleplaying with other characters, i want to create a Mage character but want something original and something i enjoy playing and roleplaying as much as my main character.. im thinking of playing on master as i do with my main character but i get annoyed easily because i feel there is no true point to it on a different character.. will someone give me motive to focus on a new character and give me some ideas as to who to play..

(I just realised how many times i must have said character..)

Same here. I have tried sword and board, illusionist assassin, archer, dual wielding rogue, bard, but they all get dropped after a few levels, and it's back to the healer. Good job I haven't completed the MQ, any factions, or started the civil war with her.

I don't find it hard playing a new character, but I have at least 10 re-rolls of my main character because I made a mistake or thought I could do something better.

I find it challenging and interesting to play a new character. They are rather fragile in the beginning and I enjoy nurturing them until they get powerful. My problem is the opposite. Once they reach a certain level somewhere around 40 or 50, I feel like I'm done, even if there are tons of quests left. I know I can make the game more challenging by turning up the difficulty or restricting my play, but I feel conflicted about it.

Maybe you just need to stick with your new one longer until you get "attached" to it.

I love the growth period of new characters. For me that's the part that is most fun. Gearing them up and perking them out and seeing what they are capable of in the long run. I have a high level mage, thief/assassin, and warrior now and each of them have been very fun. In a game like this the secret is not to try and do everything on your first character. Try to actually role play them and only do quests that relate to that character. My mage only did mage type quests, and my thief/assassin mostly stuck to the TG and DB quest lines and didn't do the mains at all. My warrior of course did the Companions and is working on the other side of the civil war from what my mage did. I explore misc areas as I do the quests on my characters so there is always something new to discover. Even on my warrior, my third character, I am still finding places to explore that I have never seen before. Don't fast travel and look for new places to explore as you walk across the landscape. Take new routes instead of just bee-lining from A to B over the same route every time.

I always end up missing destruction. I just love shooting ice storms, fire storms, and thunderbolts....makes me feel so badass.

My new character is an assassin/mage - pickpocket, destruction, illusion, sneak. I had to retire my last pure assassin because he was too overpowered with light armor and high health.

Some people RP characters that are tailor made for each role as with personality and traits. Me, I RP a character that is always me, just one that made different life choices. This way I can identify with each one. I am who I am, whether I am casting a spell or stealing or running a sword thru someone. This way I am applying the skills that I master to achieve things in a different way in the game.

This is also why I have a hard time being really evil, the best I can muster in a character is indifference to someone's feelings. As in I don't care if they cry over their stolen sweetroll.

I have that same feeling, I've been playing with restoration in one hand and a weapon in the other and it feels weird to play anything that doesn't let me heel on the go without switching out.

I'd suggest creating a character that's completely opposite to what you would normally do. Or make up some odd mixture of stealth, heavy armor, and illusion. Do something that might sound unappealing at first and then take it as far as you can.

I can only play the game from a true Roleplaying perspective instead of playing the game normally. It gets too boring after a while playing it normally.

I played a mage with no armor or weapons first, it was fun. Then a sneaky thief/assasin with bow, light armor and dual-wielding. I wasn't really interested in playing a straight warrior type. But I finally made one. Heavy armor, block and one-handed. Orc. Smith. And It became my favorite character. I just LOVE shield bashing. Sprint or whirlwind sprint to the spell caster, and bash him with your shield, to stop the cast, and then take him down. Because those spellcasters will chew you up quick on master level. Especially early levels. It's fun. Zip! Bam! Stab!. Dead. Now if there are 2 or more spellcasters you have to use strategy to separate them. And THAT'S fun too. Decided I liked it better than the mage or the sneak.

I was having difficulty sticking with any character initially. had at least three ideas that I thought were kickass, totally unique playstyles, had interesting, complex backgrounds and thought I'd enjoy playing with them... My main right now is a woodelf archer, lol, seems pretty generic, huh? but he's grown unique and interesting over time. he's my highest lvl character at 47 and done the most stuff in in skyrim. ironically, he's not a thief or an assassin but a cannibal/werewolf/harbinger of the companions and a legion vet.

I'd recommend taking a familiar build and going to unfamiliar places with it.

I've got lots of ideas, but I don't know if any of them would be good for you. I have six very different characters and I relate to all of them. The latest character I created is an Imperial (my first Imperial in any TES game). My idea for him is that he will be a leader, with plans to become a general or even an emperor someday, so the first thing he did was go to Whiterun and pick up a follower in the bar. I am going to perk him with things that will help him influence people and help make his followers stronger. So Speech perks are a must, even though they are relatively weak overall, they are needed for roleplaying this character. I will also perk smithing, alchemy and enchant, primarily to give his followers the best gear and potions, but to offset the overpowered nature of three crafting skills, he will put no perks whatsoever into any weapon or armor skill, and no perks in block or sneak. I expect to perk Restoration so he can heal his followers, but probably won't perk any other magic school.

The rest of my characters tend to follow fairly typical archetypes. I have a Khajiit dual wielding thief/assassin, a Khajiit archer/hunter, an anti-magic Nord warrior who only uses Skyforge steel weapons and wolf armor and some alchemy (no spells of any kind and no enchant), an Altmer pure mage and a Dunmer nightblade.

I totally agree with this.

I have a level 41 Breton in full Magicka-Enchanted Daedric Armor, going with a Spellsword-type class, and I kick absolute ass at what I do.

Recently.. I just created another character; Argonian. Level 6 so far, using PURE archery... and I find it harder than what I had to do with my Breton.

Yes, a different type of weapon, but I've used bows far too often to even have trouble with them, and yet it still feels different. I even play on the same difficulty that I did when I was level 6 with my Breton.

Weird, but maybe it's just the feeling of Nostalgia?

I agree with the original sentiment completely. I created my Nord the first day of the Game's released and have stuck with "Jack" the entire time. Now that he is powerful & wealthy, has a beautiful wife and a home in every location throughout Skyrim I went as far as to "roll" a new character but deep down I know I'll never be able to recapture the feeling of the vast unknown that I got the first time I journeyed the paths of Skyrim.

This.

I don't play many games, but fell totally for Skyrim. The unique discovery with the first character is simply impossible to recapture from an RP and personal attachment standpoint. I had over 350 hrs on my High Elf Sneaky archer. Retired unwillingly due to Fatal game crashes (on xbox).

I now have a Breton (since I HATE mages!) that i am trying to embrace in the game. It simply isn't the same..... The best character is the first, where you learn it all....
