Finding M'aiq the Liar

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 8:26 am

I've completed the civil war arc, the main quest, companion/thieves/dark brotherhood quest lines. Done 11 deadric shrines quest lines and assembled all the dragon priest masks and gotten all the Barenziah Stones.
But I have not met M'aiq the Liar. That is the only thing left I want to do, but how can I find him? I never met him during all the exploring I've done, what the hell?

1. Where is this guy?
2. Does he have a house?
3. Any good tactic for finding him?
4. Does anyone have is number?
5. Can you kill him?

It's pretty much random. I found him a few hours into playing the game. I found him years after starting Oblivion.

I agree its pretty random. I found him after like 18 hours of play. I wasn't looking for him, he happened to be in a random spot where I was going. (Northedge of map by sea on way to Winterhold) I never found him in Oblivion, didn't even know he existed. I know, I know....

But my favorite quote.

"It doesn't matter that one can be intelligent or strong, it only matters what one can do"

I guess this is Bethesda's response to us attribute lovers.

Oh, darn. So it's random like in random everywhere or random specific places? Where did you find him during your playthrough?
I've heard he could be found in the beginning in the farm outside Whiterun, I guess I'll check there first then, check wherever you guys found him.

1. Where is this guy?
On my first character I found him near whiterun... but afterwards, he was gone.

2. Does he have a house?
Not that I know of

3. Any good tactic for finding him?
He never fast travels :P He walks or runs.

4. Does anyone have is number?
If I had a hot line to him, I would ask him for his sage and nonsensical advice.

5. Can you kill him?
I don't know if I can... but I've seen him survive being hit by a giant 3 times in a row. He did the Kneely thing.

I've run into him 3 times in completely unrelated locations. Haven't tried to attack him.

I've seen him twice near Markarth, once near Whiterun (while he was being attacked by a giant :D) and once near Falkreath. In 37 hours.

I honestly can't recall exactly. I think it was somewhere near Ivarstead.

He shows up randomly on the road. So if you don't fast travel you'll have a higher chance of running into him. I've run into him four times so far.

He is essential.

Something I noticed about M'aiq, he seems to lead you to unmarked quests.

Once I found him near Riverwood, he was attacked by bandits and I sprang to the resque. Afterward I looked to see where he had run off to and he was standing by the body of a dead woman. She had a note on her about a traders life being difficult these days with all the bandits about.

Another time I found him standing beside an Orc.
The Orc asked me to give him an honourable death, same as the Orc Umbra in Morrowind.
He was just a standard Orc though, not very tough and with no special loot. Just a guy who didnt want to become old and grey.

I never travel along roads, and you're all like "I saw him on the road, duh!"
I just love horse mountain climbing, It's so fun. Oh well, I'll travel along those roads until I find him, looks like the best way to find him.
The thing about M'haiq is that he's a recurring easter egg character that one must have encountered to really done it all. :nono:

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll surely find him now!

He doesn't lead you to unmarked quests, all field events have set spawn points at which certain (all?) events can occur and the game loads a random event or events (or none) from that list at said locations as you cross a certain distance threshold. M'iaq just happened to share event locations with those events and they both loaded at once.

I noticed this when I saved in the field and crossed a hill to find a daedra hunter, then reloaded and crossed the same hill to find 2 necromancers, then reloaded and crossed the same hill to find a dead treasure hunter.

Field events have set spawn coordinates. Guidemakers start your maps!

Bumped into him once so far - can't remember where. It was a very cool experience finding him so unexpectedly.

I see :)

Well, in a way he leads you to unmarked quests then..
By being in the same spawn point!

It seems I'm bumping into him all the time. First time I met him was near Riverwood right at the beginning. I swear that creepy cat is working for some Daedra lord.

I actually found him on my very first day playing, right after the tutorial village, while following the guy to Riverwood for the first time, M'aiq was behind a bush. I just got lucky I guess.

Haha found him a little while ago, It was pretty easy although I'm pretty sure I was lucky. I first trotted down the main roads, trying to find him but to no avail. I then chose a tower randomly, and began riding east. There he was just by the road. Am I the only one who got no dialogue? Just some random answers when I pushed "e", then after like 4 replies he was "tired". Oh well, I'm gonna marry that svcker, I saw a thread somewhere, cant find it now, that you can marry all characters by using the console. That'd be an awesome end, marrying M'aiq. I hope he wont cheat on me, that liar! I'm a guy :bonk:

I found him behind a bush too, but on the way to Riften. He seems to go all over the place.
