Finding Keely

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 2:12 am

Hey guys. I'm doing the mission "There Stands the Grass". I didn't talk to Dr. Williams which would enable the optional quest of finding Keely in Vault 22. Will I still find Keely in the Pest Control area?

In theory, yes. But how did you avoid Dr. Williams? She stops you as soon as you accept the quest.

No, because I'm already in the vault. The Pipboy doesn't show the optional quest for finding Keely. Maybe I'll just go back and find Dr. Williams? (BTdubs, I already have the thing that Dr. Hildern ask me to get.)

Oh, then you don't need to find Keely anyhow. She just gives you some minor loot and tells you to blow up the vault, which is extremely difficult in the way you need to do it and she locks you in after talking to her unless you do this. But try looking for her if you want, she's in one of the underground caves of the vault.

Yeah, she's not in the spot where the wiki Fallout says she's supposed to be in. I am currently standing in the spot in the huge cavern with the mantis pod, and she's not there. Oh wells...

Just a side note; why can't I find the Assault Carbine extended magazine modification from any of the vendors who are supposed to have it? Am I supposed to be at a certain level? Does my Guns skill need to be higher?

That's odd. I did the quest a few days ago and some of her dialogue options hint towards the possibility of finding her without Dr. Williams.

But how you managed to avoid Dr. Williams is still a mystery to me.

It's not really that difficult, though perhaps not obvious at first. Make any companions wait in the caves, stand in the room with the cave entrance, chuck a grenade into the hallway and then run like hell for the caves. Make sure you're wearing light/no armor and not wielding a two handed weapon. Keely is entirely too blase about the whole thing, though.

Yeah, I darted out the door as soon as I got the quest. But in any case, I did the side quest of finding Keely. Took me a few tries with lobbing the grenade in order to destroy those spores, but i finished it. I also lied to her about the data that I retrieved for the other doctor. What if I told her the truth? What would the dialog be then?

On my first playthrough i got the data back to Hildern and only found out about Keely on my way out of Hildern's office.

Or just go to the server room and close the door.

After I posted that, I looked at the wiki and saw several alternative solutions. I didn't think of closing the door; I figured any explosion would just blow right through it. One of the great things about this game is that there are usually multiple solutions to a given problem.

Why would you want to avoid that quest? Admittedly keely is a rude, ignortant, uneducated ghoul who has no idea what she's doing, but you get to lie to her, which is fun. Also, at a much much later date when you're done with this vault, you can go back and shoot her in the face.
