My first 911 call

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 11:06 pm

Not me personally. My mum has had to call for my dad before. He's accident prone and also has a dodgy heart. That time I got to ride in the ambulance with him.

I once told a policeman in the centre of town about an abandoned black rucksack I'd spotted outside a shop. They were just about to call for backup when a french exchange student visiting our school picked up the backpack. Turns out it was hers. Who the hell leaves their bag outside the shop?!

I've not actually called 999 (In UK) but I've caused it to be phoned twice (I'm not a criminal)

The first time was when I was walking home from College and some drunk idiots thought it'd be funny to throw a Tea mug at me, which smashed at my feet, and then follow me, corner me and then headbutt me because I "Broke their cup"
The Gene pool is so high round here honestly, they probably would of done more, but they underestimated the nerdy boys speed. (Thank you Football ability, and your preference towards left wing :D haha)

They never got caught obviously, there was CCTV but it was focused on the road instead of the pavement, so all you saw were about 4 shadows chasing another shadow :D
Still, I got £2000 compensation out of it, some of that went on my Skyrim preorder actually :P

Anyway!

The second time was when I looked out my window (which looks out onto a little woodland pathway, it's not really "woodland", it's like a little stream side path in between houses) and someone had set fire to a motorbike and we were worried it might have fuel in it still.
Also, just on a random note, that wood pathway is also frequented by sixually promiscuous teenagers who like to engage in "illicit" acts.
I'm not sure what's worse though, that they do it.

Or I immediately start laughing and update my facebook status.

Sorry for tl;dr people :)

Called ambulance twice for passed out randoms,
Police twice.
1) Friends phone got stolen and the thief was trying to negotiate a price to return it
2)Was playing indoor soccer against a team and the first round ended in a pretty full on fight after the game. For the rematch 3 rounds later they brought about 30-40 thugs who were giving us lip the whole game whilst playing. At the end of the game when we all left to get in our cars and drive home they were waiting for us in the parking lot, some had trolley poles etc. We managed to get into our car and lock the doors and drive away but they chased us in about 4 or 5 cars. Was pretty scary coz they kept trying to box us in so they could get to us - forcing us to run red lights and what not. So i was calling 000 as my mate was driving and told them to get out the front of their nearby station so when we rolled up they could see our pursuers and grab license plates etc. Anyway we arrived at the station after about a 10-15 minute car chase (these ***** were relentless) to find no police out the front.

Pretty nerve-wracking experience and taught me the valuable lesson of not starting fights with people I don't know.

I was a passenger in my brothers car. Watched a car trying to turn left get T-Boned by another car that blew through a red light going 70KM. Pretty bad accident. With in 30 seconds I was on my cell calling 911. I hung up after 30 rings, I am not lying, they didn't answer the phone!

I like to think the reason why was because maybe 50 other people at the same time were calling 911 and that amount of calls from that location overwhelmed the center. I have been to the 911 center for the region I live in, there is always at least 10 people there.

Didn't I see that one on an episode of 911: Emergency? That was you? Nice going! :goodjob: I had to call 112 a number of times to have my ex removed from the premises because she was going bat-crazy and posed a possibly threat to our son (and I knew that if I resorted to any form of violence that the poop would really hit the fan)First time I called they didn't even want to roll because it was only a possible threat, and nothing had actually happened yet.no kidding.I asked if I should call back in five minutes when a steak knife was finally sticking out of my sons head?dispatcher:Are you threatening with violence, sir?Not me, you bonehead, HER!!! can I please just have some [censored] police assistance here?!?They showed up fifteen minutes later, with my ex throwing furniture through the living room, and me standing out front."She's in there, and all yours, officers.. and gee thanks for the timely response." second time it happened, all I said was"It's me, this is my address ........., same [censored] as last time, now ROLL!!!" ..and hung up on them. They pulled up in two minutes flat :P

huh. When I called the fire truck they sent was right there in an instant. Maybe thee is a difference between the two. Besides one being big and red and the other one....

This made my night!

Well according to everyone Else's case, mine doesn't seem to bad... Except it is better to call right away and not wait until she collapsed on th floor unable to breath...

I was visiting my girlfriend (now wife) during a college break. Suddenly these two kids run out of the neighbors house yelling to call 911 so we brought them inside and called. Apparently their sister had psychological problems and went after their mother with a kitch knife. Thankfully, I don't believe anyone was physically hurt.

Wow, that is messed up

OT: I had to call 911 once after a late night fight broke out outside my previous house, but response came so I hung up. They called back but I told them someone must of called 911 already.

Once, almost.

An old and probably senile woman was walking in the middle of the road, halting all traffic. I figured someone else could do the call.

I called 111 (New Zealand's 911) once when my mate broke his neck downhill mountain biking after he hit a friggin sheep that was on the track. He got picked up by a helicopter and taken to hospital leaving me there to ride home by myself which felt really weird.

I was taking a bus home from college. The bus was waiting to make a left turn at a T-intersection, when we got the green light. Driver started to turn when a pick-up truck didn't stop and smacked into the side of the bus. One lady fell in one of the side seats fell forward and knocked over her stroller, kid was freaked out but okay. The driver whacked his head against the window and definitely had a concussion. He tried to stand and almost fell over. I ended up making the 911 call, and they asked me some questions I couldn't really answer, like was the driver of the truck okay (I couldn't see, but he got out and sat at the side) or if there were any chemicals leaking from the vehicles (again, it was dark and I couldn't see). Eventually one fire truck, three police cars and an ambulance came. The driver got taken to the hospital, and I think the woman who fell on her stroller opted to get her and her child checked out just in case. I filled out one of those witness statements and then they transferred everyone else to another bus. I guess everyone was okay, cause after I got home, didn't hear about it again.

Last night I had to call 911 about a pretty big accident that happened a couple hundred feet from my house. Semi-related, I've had cars literally drive into my front porch. One time I was super tired, playing some Guild Wars IIRC, and someone hit the porch. They asked me what to do, and I said to tell the landlords if they felt like it tomorrow. Surprise, they never did. :P One guy literally split the porch in half, so he didn't get away with it. There have also been a couple other times, but they were while I wasn't home.

My first 911 call was like 5 years ago and I was 12 and I was home alone and two guys in FULL black knocked on the door. I told them im callin the cops on them and they said "no no no we're leaving!" and 5 minutes later cops came and told me they were just Mormons. They never came back too the neighborhood since.

I've called 911 a few times.

One particularly scary time was when my mom was having trouble breathing, she has some heart problems and I had to make the call.

Another more recent time I pulled up behind a guy at a red light, well it turned green and he didn't go, so I went around him and he was hunched over in his seat. I pulled over and called 911 while making sure he didn't suddenly drive out into cross traffic. When the cops came one pulled up in front of him and they tapped on his window, sure enough he jumped awake and drive right into the cop car in front of him.

One thing that annoys me though, is paramedics I've seen come to the scene if bad accidents never have any sense of urgency, almost like they can't be bothered to hurry up and assess the people.

I agree with the paramedics not wanting to hurry up. That's why you need to make it sound a little more urgent to begin with. That might get you in trouble though...

I've called to report road emergencies several times (not involving myself). One time was a woman that had a heart attack late at night while she was driving. I saw her veer off the road right at Congress and Michigan in Chicago (very big intersection in a big city). I also called several times in college to have police remove drunk, violent idiots from various places (people definitely would have been hurt otherwise). The worst was in high school. I got home one day and found my dad having a massive stroke. If I hadn't come home when I did he probably would have died.

Once when I was in preschool the teacher told us about 911, I got the impression I was suppose to practice, a cop answered and I hung up, my mom was asleep when they showed up and was very confused.

The next day I asked my teacher when the test on 911 was, I was ready for it! It would have been like the only real 'test' I would have taken (the teacher had this crazy idea to make sure no one got test anxiety when they were older so she tested us with finger-painting  )
