Can someone please help me.

At the College of Winterhold doing First Lessons quest. Tolfdir is suppose to throw a fire bolt spell at me while I cast lesser word spell. I cast the ward spell and he stops casting mid way and won't cast again. Is there anything I can do for him to fully cast the spell? Quest is stalled otherwise.
