My first midnight release.

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 12:37 pm

I am planing on going to the midnight release of Skyrim, and I was wondering, on average how crowded this thing could get. I was planning on getting there around 11pm, but a friend of mine said that it would be better to get to gamestop around 10:30pm. I don't want to end up stuck in a long line.

It depends on a lot of things. I'm gonna get there at 8pm so I'll be the first one to get my hands on a copy

Depending on where you're from, I doubt it will be that crowded. I'd get there at 12.

Depends what area you live around.

I live more or less on campus so I know the nearest gamestop will be flooded with tons of students which means I'll be arriving around 8ish.

The GameStop where I work hands out numbers during business hours to determine the order of getting your game, so you should check with where you're getting it and see what their system is.

Thanks for the quick replys. I live in a fairly small town and there is a wallmart right next to the gamestop, that as far as I know, also does midnight releases for big games. So I don't think it will be overly crowded. Either way, I think will just try to get there around 10:30.

Actually, it is not.

You show up and go in and pay off what's left of your reciept. They take out your game, put a number on it. You show them your number, they give you your game right away, you walk out fast.

The Halo 3 midnight release I went to had a different, but equally effective system. You show up, pay off whats left, etc., they stamp your receipt showing what version of the game you got. They had all the games stacked up right there and the moment you presented your receipt, they hand you your edition.

Gamestop has done midnight releases more than six times before. They have become exceedingly efficient at it.

I'm actually a little worried, the "midnight" sale will start at 20:00 in my country since it will have reached 24:00 in the US by then, and the store I've pre-ordered closes at 19:00.

I wonder if they will have a line ready before the store closes or if I shall have to fight whoever dares claim the first spot at 19:00 in a epic duel to the death for the sake of first spot...

I will at least take as early of a spot as possible when the store closes at 19:00.

And risk someone listening in on our conversation and sending a highly skilled assassin after me to thin the numbers before the epic battle for the first spot ? My dear, how could you be so naive.

@ OP: You should go as soon as possible really, even sooner (tell your boss you suddenly got a case of some new virus, like let's see, swine... bird... reptilian flu ? yeah, you got a bad case of the reptilian flu and it's vital you leave the working area for the safety of the workforce) and remember to bring rations and a good set of armor. You can never be too careful.

(Oh and on a more realistic note, writing this reminded me of when the WoW expansion The Burning Crusade came out, it was my first midnight sale and some woman with her child decided to ignore the line and rushed ahead and when I tried to step in front of her so she wouldn't be cutting me in the line she bonked me on the head and rushed forward anyways, the guys in front of me let her pass after seeing what would happen if they got in her way...)

I don't live remotely near a college and theres a gamestop and a best buy literally across the street from each other both doing midnight release , with like 5 more gamestops in a 10 mile radius

I'm gonna show up at like 11:50PM and it better not somehow be a ridiculous line
