A fix for "Blood on the Ice" quest?

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 11:09 am

I am one of the unfortunate souls who can't get the quest to trigger in any way.

Played through the main story quest, and also through the stormcloaks storyline, and didn't do the Dark Brotherhood story line (I killed their leader when she offered me to join).

I am now at the point where if I try to purchase the house in Windhelm, Jorleif tells me that there was some "unpleasantness" and that the house isn't available at the moment.

Obviously, console commands such as "Player.Setstage MS11 0" will not start the quest.

Now that patch 1.3 is out, I thought maybe there was some hope, but this still isn't fixed.

Is Bethesda even aware of this issue? Why is it taking so long to fix this quest?

Is there no other option but to start a new play through of the game in order to play it???

Thanks to anyone who replies!

See this thread: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1303955-hjerim-house-purchase-depite-quest-bug/

It won't fix the quest (there seems to be some event that prevent the quest from running at all) but it will allow you to get the house.

Hey Toutatis,

To be honest, at this point I don't really care about the house that much... I'm more interested in playing the quest because it sounds fun...

But thank you for the information nonetheless!!

Then don't get the house and wait for either a patch or the CS. Getting the house this way will certainly make the quest unfixable later on if you still play with the same char.

you have to fast travel back and forth from windhelm to whiterun back to windhelm 5 times then when you enter windhelm the 5 time go to the grave yard and you will see 3 people and a guard standing around talk to guard to trigger you will also see a dead body laying on grave

LOL! Sorry for laughing, but that's actually one of the first suggestions I found when trying to look for solutions with starting this quest. This only works in some very specific cases.

In the case of people who can't start the quest at all, nothing helps. I mean I practically finished the whole game already... if it were that simple I'd had started that quest long ago since I traveled from and back to windhelm a hundred times by now lol

Thanks for trying! :)

Yeah, thanks! That was my intention as well... what's the "CS" btw?

The construction set...although I believe it's called "creation kit" (or CK) this time around. It will open new doors to modding and give easy access to most game files, including scripts (which seem to be key in this case) so if Beth doesn't fix it, someone will be able to do so rather easily.

@ Larry: even if you do this it will be of no help in many cases. The quest script is bugged and contains many "showstoppers".
