Fixing the game map

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 6:19 pm

Hi

http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/1183/mapnu.jpg

This is the map of the mod I am making , I woudl like to know if is possible somehow to be able to cover with fog , clouds or the like the very visible ends of the map the square borders ... of course ingame ( luckily ) those aren't visible but are in the map ...

Also Altough I am pretty much satisfied by how it does look I wonder if is possible to detail it better , so that shows land where is land , the Big lods where they shoudl be and so on?

You need to create a cloud mesh. I'll find out how MERP did it :D.

I need this as well. My island is kind of fuddled by the abrupt edge to the water surrounding it. :P I also have half of my island that I'm not developing and will add in an 'expansion' so I can do two smaller mods instead of one massive two year project. I'd love to cover that up with clouds until the time comes and I develope it.

You could add "fake" LOD at the borders to extend the sea (without actual WRLD/LAND/CELL data being there), same principle as how Bethesda added Cyrodiil. Map movement restrictions can be set in the worldspace properties, but you probably already know that.

I'd actually rather do this than clouds. Can you explain how I would go about adding fake water LOD for an additional 32 or so cells around my original 64x64?

This is in my opinion easiest:

Create a large, pure black RAW image (several quads bigger than your worldspace) and import it with TESAnnwyn. For convenience name it the same as your actual used worldspace. Generate terrain LOD (they'll all be only sea), copy all these new terrain LOD mesh files to your current terrain LOD folder, and do NOT overwrite existing files. This way only the extra outer quads of LOD will be copied to the folder, expanding the sea there. Since your actual worldspace is not that big, these files will never be overwritten when you re-generate LOD.

Ohhh, yes. I'll have to give that a try. Though my sea level isn't exactly at 0, but that's set in the CK. That said, the ocean floor is far higher than 0 (Or pure black?) but the player can't go near the edge, so will it matter if the land under the water abruptly drops off? Or as long as the sea level is the right height (I'll set it in the CK), then it will look right?

EDIT: Actually I just noticed that that wouldn't fix the northern half of my land not being made, like the clouds would. So I may have to do the clouds anyway. I'll just cover the very edges and most of the north half with them...

I may try both and I'll pick what looks better.

Well this solution is not feasible for my Atmora , even if the Place is 4 times bigger than Issgard I can still pan around the borders of the mountairanges in that landscape ... is it possible to block it somehow or limit the panning ?

Or also how to cover with clouds the borders?

The camera movement restriction box is defined in the worldspace properties, the zoom and pan capabilities of the camera are INI settings. Clouds in the world overview map are just one big NIF mesh, it's not easy to make a new one. I'm also not even sure if you can add one for your worldspace without replacing the one of Tamriel.
