Alright people, FO3 fans or NV fans. I'm sick of this. I've had it. Something needs to be done. I can't come onto this forum without hearing someone crying to a bunch of random strangers about how they think NV is so much better than FO3 or how NV doesn't even compare to FO3.I'd like to be able to come onto this forum without seeing the forum filled will complaints. If you don't like it, don't play it. If you like it, no one's stopping you from playing. I think people have discussed which game is better, or they prefer, or they cuddle with at night long enough. It needs to come to a stop! There are still plenty of Fallout related things out there whether you liked the game or not! Just please, for the wasteland's sake stop [censored]ing about it! Can we make an agreement? Can we all cross our hearts and swear on Fallout's name that we wont cry over a game anymore? Honestly I enjoy the series and these forums so much but they've become tainted with negativity. Let's just start fresh, how about we talk about the DLC, quests, creatures, builds, locations, encounters? Something other than this trash. Venting feels very good, very good... :hubbahubba:

I know it svcks to constantly have the argument, but considering that the way FO4 is made is potentially on the line I think we've behaved fairly civilized. Many of the things I complained about in FO3 got fixed up in FONV, so I do feel like if I don't let it be known that the changes were generally for the better that it will revert back Not helpful I know lol

Me too. These types of games are just what I needed, after playing too many action games that I could finish in a week.


I suspect all of this trouble comes from the extreme nostalgia that some Fallout 1 fans have for that game and its sequel. They hated Fallout 3 any number of reason, all of which lead back to how little Fallout 3 is like its predecessors. Now, apparently, Fallout: New Vegas is godsend, even though a lot like Fallout 3. :shrug:

I am a big fan of the FO1 and completely obsessed with FO2, but that doesn't prevent me from seeing FO3 as a great game. Ask any die hard FO1+2 fan what they think is the best modern (last 3-5 years) PC RPG game and I guarantee you that FO3 will be in the top 5 in 90% of cases. I think there is even an old thread on FO3 forum that confirms it.

New Vegas fixes a great deal of what was thought to be broken/wrong (though not everything), but a godsend is a wrong word. More like favorable breeze.
And yet, when it is actually a lot like Fallout 3, some Fallout 3 fans appear to not like it. Go figure. :laugh:

I think the biggest rift is the exploration versus story argument. We have one group that believes the game should be based solely on "dungeons" and loot, one group that believes the game should be solely about the story, one group that wants a little of both, and another group that doesn't care because they just like playing video games.

I'm in the group that likes both, but I lean towards storytelling. I wouldn't complain at all if the next game had very in depth exploration and easter eggs everywhere... In fact I would love having even more to do outside of quests. The problem is that I don't want that to be offered at the expense of the story, which I feel was really well done in Fallout: New Vegas and I felt that it was largely neglected in Fallout 3. However, I think the biggest reason why there isn't a huge emphasis on "dungeon" in Fallout: New Vegas is that there was so little time to make the game. Hell, Obsidian only had two years to make the game and look what they were able to make! Imagine if they had more time...

Bottom line, I agree with The Enclave (the person, not the organization... I want to fill them full of half inch holes) in that this rift in the community is pretty ridiculous. If only there was a way to get everyone to hug and make up...

They are both solid games.

Beth and Obsidian both have their strong points which makes for positively different experiences in gaming.

I love Beth for their sandbox worlds and exploration. But they are hopeless story tellers.
Obsidian is responsible for some amazing storytelling in gaming, but they can't code their way out of a paper bag.

I think its great we can experience two different takes on a franchise using the same engine and gameplay mechanics. How often do games get this kind of treatment?

I thoroughly enjoyed Fallout 3, and i'm sure I will love NV once the patch comes out. :foodndrink:

I'm extremely fond of both games, bugs aside. Fallout 3 was more in tuned with what I want out of games like this, but that's just because I like modding the games and using those mods for extended sandbox play and Fallout 3 seems like better modding material. Oblivion was probably my favorite game of all time. But if I had to play Fallout 3 and New Vegas only once and only vanilla, I think New Vegas would probably be my favorite. Probably. Ask me tomorrow and I'll likely have changed my mind.

That would be a wrong assumption (usually). Any Fallout 1 fan that dislikes FO3, is almost certain to have both Fallout 1 & 2 installed on their current system; and most likely they have played one or the other (or both) in the last few months. Its not nostalgia if you have it in front of you and can make active comparisons.

For me, FO New Vegas is a half step closer to the core series ~even though its basically FO3 with a few tweaks and a re-write.

I just stopped playing FO1 a couple of minutes ago actually (finally got the colours working ) and even though I started with FO3, FO1 would be my favourite of the whole series.

However I love F:NV and FO3 both equally, I don't play favourites with them

For me, FO3 was like Titanic and NV is like the iceberg......epic until it face a great challenge®.

The fact that people can found space in FO3 swiftly to put all their mods in yet not in NV tells us something......

This isn't the perfect world, and people are arguing about bugs, and have even resorted to claims that others are lying about them....and we think we could bring a halt to the angst?

Seriously, I've seen better behaviour in game...and some people claim that the NPC's factions are dysfunctional...

By the same token, if you don't like the complaints, don't read the threads. Nobody is forcing you to click on those threads and read them.

I enjoy FNV and don't understand why people would sign up just to rant about how bad the game is. But I'm against fascism and any attempt to prevent people from expressing their opinions... in a polite and inoffensive way at least.

I too am sick of the constant bantering about it, but I've chosen simply to stop reading those threads - problem solved.

The problem with avoiding 'those threads' is that the partisan bickering, rose-tinted nostalgia and misplaced superiority complexes surface in every thread. Every thread. I've started a couple threads that are just about gameplay & the setting and both have had incursions from the VS crowd--
Rollplayers VS roleplayers
Bethesda VS Obsidion
Turn-based VS FPS/VATS
Old VS new
etc, etc

A lot of us are here because we enjoy the series and just want to talk to other people about it in a moderately civilized manner ('moderately', because if we all got along it would probably get boring.)
Unfortunately we have to put up with others who take the whole damned thing WAY too seriously. Honestly, guys, take a walk or something. At the end of the day, they are only games.

Nah it's the one game franchise which I truly love above all other game series.
I love Resident Evil games (Prior to RE4) as well but they're still "just games" for me.
Fallout on the other hand, is something else.
So I'll keep with my overly seriousness thank you.

I don't see the point of complaining about people who disagree about something, this is a forum after all. People will debate about something they believe strongly in, it is human nature. Its nice that you like both games equally, but some people like fo3 better others like nv. You can't just make them instantly stop disagreeing....
