Follower's Default Gear

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 5:01 am

I doubt there is any way - by hook or by crook - to get rid of a follower's default gear on home consoles? I'm playing as an Argonian who is a hardcoe supporter of the blades, and runs around in their armor, but I refuse to wear the helmet because my horns should make wearing the helmet impossible. I don't like how the horns simply vanish. Well, I married Derkeethus and had him join the blades, but he wears the helmet by default. I'd rather him not wear the helmet as well. Frankly, I wish they had kept Morrowind's style which prevented the beast races from wearing certain things.

as i understand it...the final perk of pickpocket (at 100 points) allows you to pickpocket all worn items off of anyone.

Don't quote me on this, as I never really used followers, but if they are your follower, you should be able to go into their inventory with the speech option and just remove the helmet from their inventory. Basing this off of the same principle that when you put new armor into the follower's inventory, they wear the strongest armor that they have available.

the reason that you can remove the helmet is because it is not defaut armor.

none of the followers that i have ever used has had a helmet to start.

unless you use the console or the pickpocket perk you can only take what you have given them.

That is not true in regards to your spouse follower when they run a store. By giving them better armor than their default set, they move their starting gear set to their store and you can buy it off of them. As said, for non-spouses you must have the pickpocketing perk 'Perfect Touch' for this to work.

Also, if you remove their entire set and leave them completely naked, the starting gear set will completely respawn upon visiting a new area (just like Dead Thralls). The trick is to leave one piece of the set and the other pieces do not respawn. I advise leaving the boots.

While we are on the subject, there are some 'default gear' upgrades in the game. Giant Club becomes a default weapon and Dwarven Sphere Centurion Arrow replaces their default Steel Arrows. I am still looking for more...

You actually can replace their default armour with a final perk in pick pocketing.

Though they can not be your follower at the time you are taking/replacing it.

Also keep in mind you can change it with either a higher or lower tier armour/weapon.

I thought once they become "Blades" they wear that armor for life no swapping it out or removing it?

I think that followers always use the most powerful item they can...would there be any way to make a circlet that has more armor than the helm? Through enchanting maybe?

The only way to make "armored" circlets in on the PC with mods, and I believe there is only one "armored" Circlet in the game that can be found.

I believe followers always equip the most valuable item in their inventory, not the most powerful.
