Follower Levelling Up

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 4:20 pm

Hey guys,

I've been away from Skyrim for half a year and just today I'm trying to get back into it again. Just a quick question:

Has the Follower Levelling Up been fixed/patched? Do they now level with you or are they still 'stuck' in their initial level when you first encounter them?

Thanks i advance :)

They are still stuck. You can use the Wabbajack to level them though, as it resets their level when they transform. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Wabbajack

I have no idea what this wabbajack is but many thanks for that.

Im assuming that I have to still avoid the encounter with the follower(s) if I want them at a high level, and can use this wabberjack to level them? God, why did they not fix the broken follower levelling, I don't know!

Dont want to read that wiki in case its a spoiler

cheers buddy

Ok, but so you know you can level your followers with it to your current level. So if for example, you get Faendal at lv 1 (not unheard of) and then you level up to 20, you can do this trick and he will become level 20. This lets me feel much more lax about when I get followers.

I agree though it is STUPID they havn't fixed something this major in the 5 or so patches they have out.

It will be a spoiler if you do not know what that is. Stay away from any WIKI is my advice.

I 'left' Skyrim for half a year because the bugs, glitches just broke the game for me, especially the follower levelling. Avoiding every follower encounter just so they dont 'lock' onto my level was too frustrating, not the way a open world rpg should be played.

Now after six months i've come back to it hoping that these issues had been ironed out, but it hasnt. Guess I'm going to have to use the wabberjack :)

Can you point me in the direction of how to go about aquiring this wabberjack without spoiling anything for me please.

Cheers again :)

Yes I love my Elder Scroll games and tend to avoid wiki's whenever I can. I try to rely on forum members guidance and advice instead as they don't ruin the story/plot

Awesome.

Could you give me a run-down of the major updates for this game? Just the important ones ie. does destruction now level with you, dragons flying backwards etc. Its been a long time since i've played this game due to the amount of 'issues'.

I know I advised against wikis but some things are an exception...like this.

Has this been found to be a bug, or is it how Bethesda intended it to be? (Followers not leveling up with the PC)

It's no bug. That is the way they are set from the CK.

And my next rhetorical would be....why?

I mean, guards level with you.

I've been using Lydia on a recent playthrough, and whilst I have taken care to upgrade her equipment every so often, she seems to have coped with the increase in difficulty rather well. Shes been with me for over 10 levels, and I'm still happy for her to fight her own battles in a large melee...

I thought she'd be dead by now TBH.

Creating an NPC in the CK, lets you do 1 of 2 things, by just checking or unchecking a box.

1 - The NPC will be set to a certain level, that you type in. Thus they will always be that level, no matter the player level.
2 - The NPC will be set to the level of the player. (at the time you enter the cell)

So, if we dismiss a follower and he goes back home, shouldn't he be at our level when we pick him up the next time we enter his cell?

Ideally, they should level themselves based on what they do with you. I guess that's too much to ask for.

It doesn't work that way. When the follower is first created in the world, its level is set to yours, and it stays there forever unless you do something about it. The Wabbajack is one way (though it only works on nonessential followers) and for PC users the console is another.

Two good points. I am not sure why it's this way. Maybe a guru of the CK can explain it better. I would like to know more myself.
However, Mjol levels with the player? Right?

I've yet to have that happen although it is a possibility so it's a good idea to save before using the Wabbajack.

This works for me...(on PC) there is a console command: SETCLASS that will level your follower.

For instance, Lydia is my follower. When I level up, I simply tap the tilde key (opens the console) and then put the cursor on Lydia and click. This sets her ID for the next command. Then I enter SETCLASS 13176 hit enter and then exit the console.

If you are doubtful, you can go through the same process...opening console and setting your followers ID and then enter GETAVINFO HEALTH (or GETAVINFO ONEHANDED or GETAVINFO BLOCK) and note the numbers. Then do the SETCLASS command and after hitting enter, repeat the GETAVINFO command. You may see a big difference esp. if you haven't leveled your followere for a long time.

You don't have to do this everytime you level up but if you want to keep your follower close to your level, you need to do it every couple of times.

That's what they say on the UESP wiki. Class 00013176 is "Warrior | CombatWarrior1H" which is Lydia's primary skill. I guess using this class for a warrior who is specialised in 2h weapons won't work?

It'll work, but the code is specific to Lydia. If you want to use the SETCLASS command for a 2H follower, you'd need their specific ID number.
