Follower "slot" permanently filled... Bug - please h

Greetings Internet!

I am requesting your aid with an issue that is detracting me from enjoying my dragon-murdering.

I am in the unfortunate position of being unable to recruit any followers as everyone is eager to point when I ask them to join that I already have someone... that is invisible to me but that everyone else can see apparently.

the reason this is getting more than a little irritating is because I have a quest that i am trying to finish that requires Vilkas, and if I try to complete without him, then the quest is automatically moved to the completed section before i get a chance to actually do it.

is there a way to kick this phantom companion out of my life? perhaps a console command that can wipe the slate clean so that I can give Vilkas' spirit some peace.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks internet.

Same issue here. I have 3 companions and all 3 say I all ready have someone with me yet I do not. I am only level 8 so I may end up starting over unless someone knows how to fix it.

Ok so I found the solution to my problem thanks to another forum user. Check your quests. See if any of them are quests that require you join the quest giver to complete the quest. Those quests will block you from having any of your companions follow you.

OK thanks! I'll check that out, but now I'm still stuck with a quest that auto-completes, I'll look into it on my end, but is someone knows how to reset a quest off the top of their heads, I would appreciate help.

OK, I checked my quests and there are no quests where im suppose to meet someone that will accompany me on a quest. I will ask again, does anyone know of a console command that can just make this go away. thanks.

Aren't their any developers or mods on this forum? I would imagine they would be hard at work after a HUGE game like this was just released...I dare not start a new thread on this issue, but we ( PS3 players), would like a response...it is OBVIOUSLY an issue

I still have not found a fix, I have killed and disabled and enabled many people, even killed and brought them back with the console and still no fix.

bump - cleared all my quests, finished the main quest, killed/resurrected all my potential followers via the command console, prayed the mighty emperor of man, prayed to the four gods of chaos and I am still stuck with an invisible companion! GAH!

I think the quest that started all this is Purity, companion quest for Vilkas (questID CR13)... at this point, i just want something to murder my invisible companion with.

Buuuuuuuuump. I keep meeting cool people who want to be my friend, but they can't due to my permanent invisible buddy. Curse Vilkas and his broken Purity quest!

Mother always said you should stop playing with your imaginary friends.

Haha, nice. Try playing on your own, or buy a horse. Horses are beast in this game I am playing on expert, and he nearly take out the frost dragon ;p

I have the problem as well. I cannot add another follwoer but I dont have one. The guy from the temple died during the sap quest..thought he would respawn elsewhere or at least be out of my party but it appears he isn't, and the save is days old IF it is him being the problem!!
