Followers & Bows

Will followers ever stop using their useless Hunting Bow and use this Ebony Bow of Paralyzing or Daedric Bow of Absorb Health that I have given them?

Is this too much of a pain to fix Bethesda?

My followers uses the bow I gave her.

Just take the useless Hunting bow from them and he/her will use the bow you given
them.

But it will respawn in their inventory and they'll re-equip it.

also, some characters don't have it in their inventory, it's just an item stuck to them. i mean.. it's in their inventory but in no way can you take it

Most followers have a "hidden" hunting bow that you cannot remove from them and they will still prefer this over say a fully upgraded (legendary) Ebony or Deadric Bow. It's a bug that's been in the game since day 1.

Why no take their bow and improve it at a grindingwheel? If your smithing skill is high enough you can make a long bow usuable for the whole game. It might not be on par with a Deadric bow but it's better than nothing.

The problem isn't with making the bow better its them always preferring to use the hunting bow over any bow you give them (sometimes they will equip it for 1 fight then default back to the hunting bow) This has been a problem since the release of the game and I've kinda just dealt with it hoping one day it would be fixed but 7 months after release and this still has been neglected.

You can't take it from some of them

even if you could it'd respawn in their inventory and they'd use the crappy one lol

I don't ever use followers, but this really needs to be patched.
It would be even worse if followers use the hunting bow instead of crossbows for the people that will want to do that when Dawnguard is released.

Right but you can't take it from them without console commands, and then you can't re-add the same bow to your inventory.

All I can say is I hope there's a patch within the next week to fix a few issues and I hope this is one of them I just want my follower to use the bows I give them. I never really used followers on my first char since he was stealth based but now that I am running pure fighter its nice to have an archer stand behind me and I'd like to give them a halfway decent bow that they'd actually use over that damn hunting bow >.<

I didn't even notice you were in the beta. And I would never ask for that kind of info.

You'd think the big red Dawnguard Beta Tester would be obvious. Apparently not for me.

LOL I'd love to tell you guys more about DG but unfortunately I cannot. I can however say it will be well worth the price of admission.

I wish I could get that ... unfortunately I don't have a rig to play Skyrm on that's why I opted for the Xbox 360, (glad i did though since i got the opportunity to play DG 2 weeks before the masses) Once I get a rig to handle Skyrim you bet ill be picking up a copy for PC. One great thing about PC is the Mods which I am seriously missing after playing Morrowind, Oblivion, and FO3 modded.

well if you finished to DB the initiates do not have any default weapons and can wield any weapon even bows but you have to give them arrows what im planning to do is after we can craft bolts for crossbows give the DB initiate a crossbow of paralyzing that would be really helpful but i really hope they patch this i have my warrior followers only use their bow so they are useless now

It's a bug. For some reason, followers use their default bows no matter what you do.

Ah that's a good point I never thought about that ... Thanks for pointing that one out to me I will have to try that one out. (I may even haul one around on my main since they're good at sneaking. But Ill be damned if they get my good armor :-P)

I've given my follower every bow I could and usually give them every arrow at one point in time or another (Daedric at the moment for my follower) But still they decide to use the damn Hunting Bow. They WILL use any arrow you give them but never any bow (If they do and they put it away next time they will pull out the Hunting Bow again)
