Followers (Lydia) dying - is it meant to happen?

Post » Thu Jun 28, 2012 7:58 am

Another question I got people ...

Again, when I restarted I decided to actually bring along a follower, namely Lydia form Whiterun. Thinking 'The extra help would be good'.

Now, it was ... to begin with. As when I first went out, when she got to nearly dead she would collapse to floor and then after a while get back up and into the fight (Like when you try to kill named characters that can't be killed). Then one time I was fighting and realised Lydia got killed ... dead ... DEAD!!!

I am wondering, is it possible for your Housecarl, Lydia, to die properly and not come back?

Any ideas/help??

I did re-load and now she stays at home bigging me up when I pop in to do some cooking or potion making.

yes its possible, they usually drop to their knees and mobs will go for a fighting target instead

but if your follower gets hit by a stray arrow/spell/random hit they will still die

you can upgrade their gear to make them stronger but you're probably better off getting a follower flagged as essential. im not sure but i think mjoll from riften is essential

i usually just go without followers, i use bows and they tend to just get in the way and get shot instead dying a lot, very tiresome

I command my Lydia to "wait here" before I enter most battles now because of the accidental death occurences flabber mentioned. However, she still seems to come running and gets into the fray sometimes.

Otherwise she is my mule.
