Forge - How to add a new smithing category ?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 5:34 am

Hello,

Maybe somebody ask the question but I search on the forum and I didn't found the answer to this question : "How to add a new smithing category ?".

I know how add an item in a category which exist like "Steel" or "Daedric" with Keywords. But if we want create a new category like "Silver" or "Wood" for example, how can we do that ? It's possible ?

Sorry for my english language, I'm french.

it's been asked many times and the short answer is no, not possible using any conventional means.

my guess is you need to use the same 3rd party UI software to edit the smithing UI (which contains all the hard-coded categories) that bethesda used to create the smithing UI system

mmm... so you'd need to hack the UI, which is scaleform. Which, apparently is all done in flash, if you can edit that. I think the fla files for the interface are still up on nexus somewhere

if you have access to an FLA file that can be opened in flash, then i think you could edit the code in actionscript (this is way beyond my technical ability though)

in any case, i would double check the legality of this kind of mod (altering 3rd party software files that were never meant to be altered is potentially grey area, or outright prohibited depending on that software's EULA)

Check out the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1290652-modding-the-gui/page__hl__modding thread. Apparently the devs responsible for the GUI have been giving some fairly specific support to would be GUI modders,

There's also SkyUI, which uses these exact same techniques. There's a threads on these forums about it and no one has cease-and-desisted shlangster as yet. Maybe they won't sue for adding a new craftable, either :)

Thanks for yours answers !

I understand... The UI... I think that will be difficult with my ability. I will try to decipher the Modding the GUI post to understand mechanisms of the UI. It's a glimmer of hope, thanks for your interest.
