Forsworn Conspiracy. Can I avoid surrendering and get Markar

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 10:38 am

Is there anyway to avoid surrendering to corrupt guards during the forsworn conspiracy quest but still resolve it?

Instead of surrendering to the guards, I ran away not killing any of the guards. I ran outside of Markarth. I'd like to be able to somehow solve this without giving in to the corrupt guards.

So you were caught, went to jail, then escaped? Do you have a save from before that you are thinking of re-loading to or something?

I can tell you that I went through that whole quest line and those corrupt guards are STILL at the freaking Talos Shrine (some odd game time months later).

What I think you have to do is kill the guards in the shrine, because if you refuse they attack. Then you have to break into the jail to talk to the boss man.

This is just my understanding of the alternative. In the end the Forsworn Leader has to take the fall for all the murders and not you, so talking to anyone but him doesn't make a lot of sense. Someone else might be able to give you a more straight forward answer...

No, you can attack the guards in Talos' shrine, but they won't die. As far as I know, you can't complete the quest without surrendering to the guards. I thought this was very lame, I should be able to kill whoever I want, especially some corrupt guard.

Yup. You can kill the corrupt guards that murdered your wood elf questgiver. But as far as I can tell, you can't just get away without killing every guard in the city. They arrest you as soon as you walk outside, and even should you escape I have a feeling this particular "crime" won't fade away over time.

LMAO, I surrendered because I figured I'd have to kill every guard in the city. Thank god I chose to surrender or I'd be a bit disappointed. It would have been nice to mop the floor with those corrupt guards though.

wow, that is very weird. I think I killed all the unnamed guards, but the named lieutenant wasn't killable for me. He would get incapped and kneel down when his health bar was empty, but eventually he'd get back up. I really hated not being able to kill them and clear my name through alternative means.

And how exactly would you clear your name since all the Guards are corrupt and the Silver-bloods can buy/threaten anyone in the city.

I just got this quest, but I think I will ignore it. With everything I have been reading it seems to risky for someone that would like to be Thane In every city someday.

You need to do this quest to be Thane but your name is cleared at the end.

The quest kind of svcked. I wanted to show the remorseful geezer that actually calls the foresworn hits that his king is basically in the pocket of the Silverbloods after I got the evidence and the option wasn't there. Pretty disappointing since it looked like there were multiple paths in this quest, but it all ends with the same corrupt guards :sadvaultboy:

Actually you can become thane without doing this questline at all. Quests in the region outside the city count towards the helping people limit.

No. You don't - even if you make Thonar Jarl by giving/capturing the hold for the Stormcloaks after having already completed other potential favor quests for the now deposed Jarl.

I've noticed that once you've gone ahead and helped a bunch of their citizens the Jarls will get switched to "friend" without you having to do direct favors for them. While solving the forsworn conspiracy certain ways will cause both possible Jarls to like you if they don't already, it is not the only way to accomplish this.

I know this game has alot of bugs, but the markarth guard big was the only one that truly broke the game for me.

I managed to fix it by changing who ruled the city though, which is all good.

I haven't finished the quest, after reading about the glitches I'm reluctant, but I did read somewhere if you bacame thane first then completed the quest when the guard loop in the temple happens don't attack them, instead run outside and they will follow you, let one of the ordinary guards challenge you and you will be given the option of telling him you're thane, he will apologise and the others will sheath their swords and no action will be taken and all guards will be reset.

I haven't tried this myself as I mentioned, I'm thinking of waiting for a patch, but I thought I'd mention it for those who haven't tried it.

I bacame thane by helping 5 citizens and buying the house.

My problem with this quest isn't that it's bugged.

The problem is surrendering when you don't have to. I killed all the guards who attacked me first, I took control of the jail by killing all the jailors. I should of been able to finish the quest through brute force, not just turning myself in when it wasn't needed.

Thonar becomes Jarl?

When I played the Stormcloak line, all I had to do for the Reach was capture that supply train and then it went on to the next Hold. Didn't have to storm Markath Palace or anything like in Whiterun. So Thonar becomes Jarl anyway if you just capture the supplies? I never went back to the palace after since there was nothign there to do...
On a sidenote, does that mean the Jarls for other Holds except Solitude are also changed when you complete Stormcloak missions? Like Falkreath and Morthal?

Consider "The Forsworn Conspiracy" and "No One Escapes Cidhna Mine" two parts of a single quest. So you really need to go to jail to finish off this story.

I don't know but I think Jarls change if you do the peace treaty in the main quest.
