I can't disagree, I've pretty much given up on it myself. My current character hasn't made a single potion.

Not following. There are six listed ingredients, any two of which will produce the potion. Granted some are rare with hanging moss the only really common one, but bear claws, canis root, and rock warbler eggs are available.

All potions are the same; ie hawk feather/small pearl is no better than bear claw/canis root. Only skill, perks, or enchanted items will improve a given potion.

That said, some combos have additional effects that can be positive or negative. That is why there can be three ingredients. Some potions can have four or five effects, but there have to be two ingredients with each effect listed.

Once you hit level 20-25 and up, bear claws become common.
There's tons of canis root south and southeast of Solitude. Look on the shores of the swamps for smaller, twisted driftwood-looking thingies.
I recall reading somewhere that pearls/small pearls were supposed to be an occasional harvest from clams. As it is, I've only seen them in non-random loot (I know there's a few in Shroud Hearth Barrow).

Small Pearls and Pearls are extremely rare to find out in open Skyrim, and they're even pretty uncommon in Alchemy shops. So I'd just not try to save up a tone of those for these potions.

As was mentioned, Bear Claws are pretty easy to come by later in the game, when bears are just about EVERYWHERE because you're a higher level. Canis Root grows in The Rift and Hjaalmarch (place with Mortal.) I find them extremely easy to come by in Hjaalmarch if you just walk around the marshes for a while. Hanging Moss is just about everywhere in Solitude, and as for Hawk Feathers, you can actually shoot the hawks out of the sky in Solitude and at the Solitude docks. You can use arrows or spells, and the spells don't even have to be damaging. I usually shoot them down with Calm or Rally.

lol
Hawks can get so calm they forget to fly. Or maybe they think that because the still feel the breeze moving past them, that falling must be the same as flying. Hrm, it kinda is, until the splat. Stupid hawks.

Yeah just about. I was honestly amazed at how simple it was to shoot them down after I first tried it, though I've never tried with a bow. Still, the game gives you pretty decent leeway in terms of the spell hitting/killing the hawk.

The potions on that list are basically just the ones you get when you take any two ingredients with the "Fortify One Handed" effect and mix them. I filtered it a bit to eliminate negative effects etc. And yeah, they all have the same effect - there's no special "kicker ingredient" for Fortify One Hand like there is for some other effects. Because they all have the same effect, they all sell for the same price. Bear Claw & Small Pearl has an extra effect, so sells for a bit more.

If you add a third ingredient in, you can get some nicehttp://209.46.18.232/wiers.us/skyalc/workbench.php?recipes_tab&show=results&1341 like say a fortify one hand / fortify health potion. Probably more what you were looking for.
