Fortify Potions

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 2:13 am

I create a potion to fortify enchanting (by 5% I think) and I enchant a ring to fortify alchemy, created potions are 25% more powerful. However if I don't drink the potion I created to fortify enchanting, it still gives me the same 25%. Am I missing something?

AFAIK 5% bonus to enchanting won't directly bump a +25% fortify enchant up to +30% (or even by x1.05 to 36%); it just adds 5% to your skill. That +%5 to skill results in a very small increase in the enchanted effect - in this case, so small that there was no difference once things got rounded off.

Also, its possible that Fortify Alchemy enchants cap at +25%.

IDK if Fortify Enchanting is bugged or what because I used a +10% one once (Enchanting 100 with all the 'useful' Perks) and there was no difference between those and the enchanted items of the same type that I had created without a potion, but with Smithing I definitely notice a difference even with a 2% change.

Edit: I've read that by leapfrogging Enchanting and Alchemy Fortifies you can get up to +28% or +29% on gear. I've never bothered with that because +25% is good enough for me. :P

I might have my facts skewed but I believe the problem is this: If the potion fortifies enchant for say, 30 seconds... that's 30 seconds in game time. What this means is that you'll never get the full fortify effect unless you hurry and you'll rarely get it when enchanting multiple items unless you are super fast.

You are correct. You can take your time renaming the item, but you need to pick what your enchanting, pick the soul and pick the enchantments quickly. Do don't have time to play around.

Your not going to make a potion of enchanting that causes a measurable increase without fortify alchemy items on. And by leap frogging you can get a lot more then +28% I have a guy with a few +250% of fortify enchanting hanging around.

What you can do is:

Create a potion of Fortify Restoration (Abecean Longfin, Cyrodilic Spadetail, Salt Pile, Small Antlers, Small Pearl) with 2 of those ingredients. Before your alchemy drink this potion and re-create another Fortify Restoration stronger. Drink it and create your Fortify Enchantment. Create many as you'll have to drink a potion before each enchantment. (Sometimes the effect lasts less than 30 min.). In front of your arcane enchanter you can also drink a Restoration Potion and then your Fortify Enchantment potion. Try and see what you can do...

I meant the gear can get to +28% or +29% if you leapfrog the Fortify Enchantment (basically what Chimpy said - there is another way to do it too). I have 4 pieces of gear each with +25% Alchemy and I can make Fortify Smithing potions for +120% with my Alchemy at 99 and all the 'beneficial' perks. I don't bother with two head pieces (Falmer Helmet and CIrclet - Penitus Oculatus Helm will also work with this glitch). My main desire was to be able to Smith the Forsworn armor to the armor cap and I've done that. :P

I'm definitely within the 30 seconds. After you use a fortify potion you can look at the Active Magicka and it tells you how long you have left.

I have my Enchanting and Smithing at level 100 with all perks unlocked. I did noticed that when I use a fortify smithing potion it does increase my improve armor ability by a few points.

The 30 seconds is enough time to enchant 3 items with double enchantments. But you'll feel pretty rushed.

I just checked and the game allowed me to wear a Circlet and Falmer Helmet at the same time so I guess not. :P

I found I could enchant two items with a 30 second potion on the Xbox. Having to scroll through a long list of enchantments is a time killer.

It probably wasn't a big enough boost to jump from 25 to 26.

with 100 Alchemy you should be making 15% potions, not 5...

I use one potion at a time and per enchantment. No rush and where they came from there is more...
