Forum Findings

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 5:26 am

Notice that the Skyrim forums are now over 1.1 million total replies while Oblivion is just over 340K and Morrowind is well behind Oblivion (and that includes the modding and support sub forums for the earlier titles).

What do you suppose accounts for the tremendous interest in Skyrim:
Were the previous titles just foundations?
...or maybe Beth has done a better PR/advertising job?
...or maybe the forums were not so well attended in "olden times"?
...or what?

Why do you suppose the hype is so intense? Knowing the answers here could be a good business lead into TES VI

Better advertisemant, graphics, gameplay, hype all that. The internet gets bigger everyday, as do these boards.

The moderators "prune" the forums occasionally, deleting old threads. The post count thing only reflects somawhat recent posts.

Old threads get deleted. There is obviously more hype for Skyrim than Oblivion at the moment, so yeah.

Also, Skyrim also probably has more hype than Oblivion had at its time of release, so the post numbers are probably different in total anyway.

The forums are pruned regularly. I'm sure that the Oblivion and Morrowind forums have both gotten well over a million posts over the years.

Forums get cleaned from time to time , geeze even my original account got lost on the last cleaning lol :(

A moderator already said that if they leave all the posts in there Morrowind would have the most posts/threads by far

Growing interest in the brand. Oblivion was the game that really launched TES into the "mainstream" (please don't read that as people where not TES fans since Arena) and this is the first TES game since Oblivion so......

Skyrim has more preorders than the first month sales of Oblivion, Morrowind, and Fallout 3.

Combined.

The fan-base is growing.

I do think it shows growing brand recognition.

Plus there is just something about TES that gets under your skin! :celebration:

Fallout 3 brought me here. (after the fact of course)

Other games for many, Skyrim for some.

No, you're wrong. Skyrim genuinely has much more interest because it features stoats.

Possibly.

Old threads and posts get pruned regularly. Oblivion has more posts than Skyrim could dream about at this point.

Pruning is done based on time, since there isn't nearly as much activity for Oblivion and Morrowind now, they have less new posts during any given time period than Skyrim has. Back when Oblivion first came out, it was much the same I'd wager.

Obviously Dagoth Todd and Dagoth Pete are sending their dream to the sleepers far and wide, awakening in them a hunger for the collection of pots and silver cups rendered in teh moar awsum grafx.
