Forum Musicians Thread

Post » Tue Aug 09, 2011 6:39 pm

Hey all- I see a lot of music genre threads on the forum... Makes me wonder, how many of you are musicians?
I want this to be a place where we can all share our tunes, talk about gear, techniques.. Heck, maybe even some newtworking/bill sharing for anyone that can make it work logistically.

I dont want this to be a place where people bicker about musical differences or skill levels. It's all about the love here.

I will kick it off by posting a youtube clip of one of our homegrown tunes..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0kxcQuhNr4

Looking forward to hearing what you all have!

Cheers!

I'd like to try making my own electronic music but I can't afford the software and I can't find any good freeware music production software.

My friends and I had a pretty good thing going once, playing something in the vein of punky hardcoe. Musical differences and going off to various universities kind of split us up though before we ever worked out our stuff enough to record anything.

I'm busy as hell at school, but I'm still looking for a new group of more similarly musically-minded people to maybe start something up again.

Have you tried looking into free versions of fruity loops?
You can do a lot with the program, even in th3e free version.. import export samples. comes with a lot of synths, guits, bass, and you can mess around with a whole lot of things to make your own sounds.
I still have a copy and use it to make loops for fratch tracks... easy to use, too

Man, i feel your pain on that one.
keeping everyone on the same page is the hardest thing about making a band work.
that and finding a drummer that has his own set of drums. haha

all forms of music are welcome, if youve got anything you want to share, post it up!

I used to play trumpet, and still do from time to time, but I've fallen disgustingly out of practice. Shame too. I miss the horn. :(

There is a recording somewhere around here of when I played Taps at church for memorial day, but I fudged a note right in the middle of the thing and would sooner commit seppuku than share it. :lmao:

Our drummer had his own drums, but he had a serious case of laziness and addiction.

He played with a cracked symbol, a [censored] sounding tom and he broke his double bass pedal -- always had to bum one from another friend of ours. He was a pretty good drummer though.

That is one thing i don't envy of drummers. Their gear is pricey...
amps and guits can get up there, but you (hopefully) only have to buy a few in your lifetime..
Cymbals... especially when you get into matched sets.. $$$

No, I was the vocalist (can't really say singer, I hate my voice) and all the members went separate ways. Fights and what not. We only ever played one local gig, but it was one of the most awesome experiences of my life. We opened for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drain_STH That was back in, like, 96 or 98. I still have the video recording of us somewhere.

 They've got a kind of Alice in Chains vibe, I guess. The singer is married to Tony Iommi from Sabbath. They played on Ozzfest right around that time.

Let me know what you think of them. Their first album is the better of the two they put out. They have split up and are doing a few other projects.

I'm a guitarist and occasional vocalist, and I write a lot of my own music too. Between bands at the moment, because it's summer and I've just finished uni and I dunno who's gonna be around next year.

Recently my bands have included a metalcore-ish band I did vocals for (we have an EP available online which I can't link to), a ska punk band I played guitar for and a drone/doom metal band for which I did both. Actually with the last band I'm gonna record another album soon, and I'm in the process of getting our first one up on BandCamp.

Next year I'm hopefully gonna keep the metalcore-ish band going (with a different name and new members) and do vocals for a stoner-rock band.

I'm also working a lot more on solo stuff - practicing a lot with my accoustic guitar and vocals (so far I have a few White Stripes covers, various punk covers, and a couple of solo versions of my other bands' songs) and hopefully gonna get some doomy grindcore recorded with just me, my guitar and a drum machine/sequencer.

Er, is that all?

Would it be possible to post or pm me a sample from the metalcore-ish band? I'd be interested in hearing it.

Well, the stoner rock band hasn't started yet, so I can't offer anything from that, but I do have http://www.myspace.com/hearsedoomold MySpace page for my doom band. Two of those tracks are on the album we've already recorded, and one is a demo for something we're gonna record this month. Gonna get both those recording sessions up on BandCamp soon enough, too...

Let us know when you get those done..

pretty atmospheric, the myspace stuff.
like the sounds of the dust settling after the apocalypse- that moment of still, before the mutants start to rise.

How would I go about putting songs on my Boss RC Looper into my computer so they can be song files I can share?

Read the instruction manual? These sorts of things are all different, and unless you're lucky enough to own the same product as someone else here it's unlikely anyone can help.
