Forum Suggestions for Admins and Mods

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 3:40 am

01. The Mod Threads Especially are an Irritation since my Search has found about 40 of them, so here is an Idea for when Viewing or Creating a Thread.

Once you start making a Topic Title, the Forum Auto Search the Words for Matching Threads that will give a Warning that 40 Threads Exist. This will Reduce Spamming and Countless Threads of the Same Nature.

When Viewing a Thread, there must be a Window Below that shows Matching Threads of the Same Title

02. Giving a Choosing Forum Background.

The Black Forum Layout is ok, but i would Suggest More Forum Layouts from Other Game Layouts at our Choosing, oh and the RAGE Forum Layout is the Worse.

03. The Avatar.

Please make a Link Section for Uploading Avatars from the Internet or Allow our Choosing Avatars as a Picture Link, for sometimes i dont have that Specific Image i Uploaded from my PC and then i give a Blank Avatar for Forum Viewing.

04. How Many Posts did you made.

Please Show our Post Number under our Avatars

05. Have i made a Post in this Thread.

Please show a Tiny Icon that Shows i made a Post in a Thread, something like this.

1. Searching is up to the individual, or one of the members very quickly say that there is an existing topic. Repeat threads are not generally a problem otherwise we would get a lot of reports about them and in fact we get very few.

2. I am not sure the forum software would allow for different backgrounds but there are programs like Stylish that allows you to change all the forum looks.

3. It used to allow for avatars to be uploaded from other sites but now it is from your computer. Once you have uploaded it it doesn't have to remain on your comp. I don't see a problem with this.

4. No point in having post count on the forum - you can click the little icon to the right of your name on any post and see it. Well, maybe there is if you are obsessed with post count.

5. Click the number of replies in the "stats" column and it shows all who have posted in the thread.

You can see this in your profile.

The forum already has this functionality: if you go into settings, you can configure it to subscribe to every thread you post to. Notifications and emails can be turned off if you just want the icon, in which case you'll get an "eye" next to watched threads. You can also use the selection box at the bottom of the forum list (edit: where it says "filter options") to show threads you've replied to.

I made an extension for Chrome that did exactly that a while ago. I'll try and find the code when I get home later today :)

also it shouldn't be too hard to convert it to a Firefox addon if that's your cup of tea

While we are at it, here's mine : please remove the ability to miscolor text into a unreadable mess, even if it needs removing the whole ability to recolor!

Highlighting that text normally makes it readable :).

1.I'm not entirely sure it is up to to mods and admins, it might just be the forum software.I really don't think its that big of a deal to do a little searching on your own.

2.We use to be able to, but when they change the software I guess we lost that feature. You can still change them around, it just takes a bit of work.

3.I really prefer the way it is now.Save to your PC and you will never have tot worry about the original host taking it down.

4.The Stars give you a rough idea, plus you can click on the little box by their name.

5.I don't think its that difficult to remember and there are multiple things in the setting which can help you with this.

I think we should have a function so those who quote long OPs for no reason, then repeat answers already given, automatically get a 24 hour posting suspension.

Agreed.

I'd say an automatic addition of a spoiler tag for quotes exceeding a certain length would help, too.

One thing I'd really like to see is a shorter flood-control: 60 seconds is way in excess of what's necessary to keep things under control and seems rather punitive; 10-20 seconds is probably nearer the mark. If a longer flood control time is thought necessary to keep new registrations under control, it's possible for new users to be put into a "newbies" group and automatically moved to "members" when they hit, say, 500 posts. Unfortunately flood control's not configurable by group, you either have it or not, but anyone found abusing it could be permanently moved back to the newbies group.

And flood-control for searches: this is separate to post flood control and it is configurable by group. It really needs to be no more than a couple of seconds to avoid using it as a DoS attack method, and it would surely be better to encourage people to use the search feature by not totally crippling it with excessive wait times between searches.

I've never had to post twice in one minute. If I get the "wait to post" screen, I go check Facebook or check my YouTube or something. By that time, the timer's up. Seeing the screen itself takes about 3-5 seconds off the time to begin with.

In regards to #1, I had that very same conversation about stickying and grouping the same titled or like title threads with a mod not to long ago, and I was laughed at. So, it won't happen.

I understand that works for some people; but I find it annoying and pointless.

I understand why we might not have this feature, but sometimes I wish we had a little gender icon under our avatars, so I could be always be confidant when using pronouns referring to another forum member.

Actually, what I really hate is people who quote stuff and repeat answers that were already given. They should automatically be given a 24 hour dunking in custard.

Edit: bugger, I really didn't need this to be at the top of a new page! <_<

Oh well, you can be the last of the topic as well.

The OP's points were noted and this is really not going anywhere.
