I fought the law.

Any way that i can obtain the I fought the law side quest if i helped goodsprings? I am on a rather neutral playthrough but as i said i defended goodsprings and i would very much like to wipe the prison out. I also raided the first room in the prision already and busted out the sherrif for primm and got him a pardon....im just unsure if i can only talk to eddie to actually activate this particular questline...any info/insight would be great.

yeah id like to find this out too as im pretty much the same position. even dressed as PG doesnt help as the named NPCs in the NCR prison pretty much attack you on sight making it impossible to activate the quest. im vilified by them. seems a shame to lose out on a quest.
what am i missing out on if i have to do with out? any special items, etc? plus do i miss out on a trophy when playing on the PS3?

If the prison already hates you, you cannot get the quest at all. One way to complete the defense of Goodsprings *and* get the prison quest is to simply hide behind a crate and let the villagers do all the fighting - you will only be bumped to Shunned, instead of Vilified, that way and can make a quick run to the prison to negotiate a truce with them so you can start the quest. Just make certain you try to avoid killing any powder gangers along the path to the prison, as failing to sneak-crit them can also turn the whole prison hostile.

yes you can

I always sided with goodsprings. Here what i do.

I save the game just before the fight and just dont attack the PG, let the town npc's kill them. Your character should recieve shunned and than I use PG clothes until i reach the jail and talk with eddie. After that you should be set.

edit: just read the first post,, but do basically what is posted about,, it works

Don't kill the non hostile prisoner at the prison. The To-Be Sheriff did not attack me as he is not a powder ganger. I was able to get the quest after wiping out the powder gangers in the room then just talking to him.

Another way is just don't do good spring quest, and run over to NCRF first and do that quest series.

The come back and finish Goodspring up.

If you have been vilified by the Powder Gangers, AND even if you complete the Vault 19 quests for the Powder Gangers, you will never be more than a Merciful Thug, which will still cause you to be shot on site at the Correctional facility and in the wasteland. I was surprised, however that I was able to walk right into Vault 19 even being Vilified at the Correctional facility. Just for the record, being able to do waltz right into Vault 19 as vilified, and NOT being able to enter the Correctional facility as a Merciful Thug, is absolutely ridiculous. Putting such a definitive quest right at the beginning of the game, before players even have a clear sense of what Reputation is or does, is even more so ridiculous.

You can also put off defending the town and go over to the prison first.
