Found a Glass Bow. But I am level 5 :

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 1:58 am

I was on my way to Ivarstead looking for the Greybeards. I started my journey from Whiterun around 2 AM. Few miles from the city I saw two Giants staring into the night.. There was a cave behind them. I sneak past them with ease as I am sneak archer wood elf. When I entered the cave it was empty, with only one chest. When I open the chest I was in shock. Inside, between the few magic items there was a Glass Bow. Compared to my currently equipped Ancient Nord Bow, the Glass Bow does insane damage. This lucky moment opens really nice RP door for my character, but I am a bit afraid that I will somehow break the game having such a powerful weapon at such a low level :/

What is your opinion about this?

Keep it. But use it wisely my son. Such power is a dangerous tool.

Roleplay that you tried using it and you haven't built enough bow mastery to be able to use it so you store it away till you are worthy.

Consider it a very lucky windfall.

I ran like a little sissy when I was low-mid level from a draugr deathlord wielding an ebony war axe one time. But I killed him... and I scored myself a chunk of solidified godsblood in the shape of a chopping implement.

Hey, you should be proud! Stick it to level scaling!

Anything you find is fair game.

How much more damage is your new bow doing?

Use it.

I'm level 10 and using a bow that does 80 damage with bows that do a further 16!

You'll still run into trouble with higher level enemies

If you are level 5, that bow can't be doing too insane of damage. Use it. I found some Daedric Armor in a chest at level 10. Sadly my char was Mage, so I sold it. If it really bothers you just dump it at next store or Blacky.

And yeah I will keep it definitively. There was a bandit camp nearby located on a river's bridge, and this bow proved amazing. Its not doing insane damage, as I had to hit the bandit leader around 7-8 times or so.. That's pretty normal.

No it really shouldn't break your game. If you aren't 1-shotting nearly everything at level 5 (around the teens enemies started posing more of a threat), then it's time you got a new bow anyway. And again, you're lucky... I had to craft my own glass bow so I could take on deathlords and such. If you decide to hang on to it for RP or whatever reasons mentioned above, I guarantee you'll run into trouble and say "f** it! where's that glass bow!?"

What is your opinion about this?
Buy a house, hide it under the bed, don't tell anyone! Not even your wife or husband.
You can tell Lydia, that's okey but no one else must know about this.
Then wait 7 days, look under your bed, is it still there? Please come back and tell!

You got lucky witht he loot. Or perhaps a glitch in the level scaling :hehe: Regardless, such high level bow at such low level can't be anything but good.

It's easy to get an Ebony weapons at low levels too, certain enemies carry them regardless of yours. Arcwind point and Dead Men's Respite, for example ;)

Slightly off topic lol!

Re-roll? I start all over again if I die!
I stupidly thought it would be a good idea to take on a giant camp with just myself and Lydia....

Yeah, not good!

I think you grossly overestimate the difference in damage between Longbow-Daedric bow, Much less Ancient Nord - Glass. You'll probably be doing around 15 or 20 more damage tops. A reward for your luck, but by no means game-breaking. Be glad that you found a Glass Bow, not a Daedric or Ebony, because at least finding glass, your character still has room to "Upgrade" later on.

I'd keep it, but role-play that I do not have enough strength to draw the bowstring.

This. And if it becomes too game-breaking, just sell it and buy a lower-level bow.

I still use the same bow I found early in game, a supple ancient nord bow on of my builds. It looks cool.

My newest build will use a simple wooden bow, it is a matter of taste. Also light bows draw faster which is important for my modded game.

Does it really matter getting a better bow at early levels? At that point player skill is so low, it would be considered as a waste of good bow on a newbie, nothing game-breaking.

Go to Bard's lookout and jump.

If you live, sell the bow.

If you die, start the game over.

It's the right thing to do.

Put It on a weapon holder until you are a higher level and you're worthy of its usage.

It's a good bow which is better than the one you currently use so you would be a fool not to use it, Rather than asking a bandit nicely to stand still while you take eight arrows to kill him you can use the better bow & do it quicker, You can use the time saved to have a cigar & cup of tea by the fire.

Not sure how role playing comes into it, The bow is a tool to be used & you need to make the most of what is offered in a dangerous world.

Also, If you are an archer you have already broken your game
