Found out about sprint - Fail of the day

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 2:03 pm

I don't even think this deserves a thread, but somehow I managed to play for 250+ hours not knowing you could actually sprint with your character. Needless to say, I felt unbelievably stupid afterwards, and still do..

Anyone else experienced something similar?

The closest I can get is buying a Cure Disease potion because an Alchemist told me I looked pale. I fell right into her trap.

As far as missing a key game mechanic? Nope.

I played the first 150-200 hours of Oblivion without knowing that there is a thing called fast-travel. I just ran or rode to everywhere... and it was immersive.

Played for over 150+ hours before realizing that I could move my mouse during combat to achieve different types of weapon swings. Up until then my combat (as a dual wielding thief) consisted of getting in front of the mob and pressing the mouse buttons. Much more dynamic now.

Does that count?

I thought sprint was just fast running? When I tested sprint it seemed to make no difference at all.

This is interesting. Whenever I run by someone that says that I go right to a temple and use the shrine to cure anything that might be afflicting me. I usually check the Active section to see if there's any red text and there usually is so I've always figured that they were just giving me a clue as to my current situation. Never even thought about stopping to speak with them. Hmmm. I might have to check this out.

Go to the Alchemist in Whiterun, that's where it happened. It's just one of her opening things of dialog. So legitimately do say that as a hint but she's trying to sell you crap.

Oh yeah, and I was about 80 hours in whenI found out you can zoom in on your inventory objects,I was squinting to see those dragon claw symbols for many times.

A bit unusual it's mapped to mouse wheel, hehe

The alchemist act just as the people selling medicine today.

It's also mapped to the arrow keys as well (at least for me it is).

This thread should be moved to the tips section with the title: "Obvious tips and tricks for the experienced noobie". :P

That's kind of what I was wondering lol. I thought my "Fail" moment was legitimate because this was a half hour into the game and I thought it was a part of the Radiant Story that people would pay attention to things like if you had diseases.

But for a lot of this stuff... There is an instruction manual that explains a lot of it. And the rest is inconsequential like being able to spin objects in load screens.

It's not like we're here trying to study for an important exam. It's a video game. Why read when we can experience first hand for ourselves? Thereby learning and growing as our character does. It's not like our characters sat down and read an instruction manual on how to be a bad ass before setting out on our adventures.

I actually trapped myself the first time I talked to the Alchemist in Whiterun. My first character is a white-skinned Argonian, so she always look pale; as a result, I assumed that the game was basing the comment on my appearance since Argonians rarely get sick thanks to their high Disease resistance. As it turned out, I actually did have a disease, so ever since I occasionally check my Active Effects tab to see if I caught anything.

I also figured out the running thing way late in the game... plus the zooming function in the inventory to study the 'claws'; I thought the rotating disc-doors' secrets were to be found in books or markings on walls - boy have I been dusting off dungeons many times -_-

I bought a disease potion, well a few of them because people was telling me I was looking pale.

I then went to a shrine and people was still telling me I looked sick or something.

That is when I checked my magic screen, and I was fine: then I checked on here and its a bug.

It helps to at least look at the Keyboard layout in the manual.

I did that, and saw the Sprint key.

However I have yet to Sprint with my character, not even once, and I've been playing nearly since the release.
