found the solution for the shuttering

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:56 pm

okay so my spec isnt great ...but had no problems running games like fallout on ultra settings.

after getting fallout nv, and applied the dll fix, offical patches...the game basically has no problems besides the annoying frequent shuttering.

(basically I was getting shuttering every 1 step)

so I started trying all the advanced graphical settings

after a good half hour of trying,

I found the "water multisampling" under the "water" tab is causing the shuttering

once i switched it to "low", my shuttering problem is gone immediately.

I dont know if it was only because of my computer or what

but if you are experiencing this problem....might be worth trying.

thanks for mentioning that though, I have had the PC version of FONV since day 1 and have never installed it after seeing all the problems everyone is having trying to get it to work right...

I'm just going to wait until some of these insane problems get fixed and THEN I'll install it.. lol

and one of the first things I'm going to do is turn the water settings down as low as they'll go... because I personally don't give a crap how the water looks if it makes the game run smoothly well that'll be a blessing...

that's the question I am wondering as well.............cuz I got stuttering even when I was not near the water....

but once I turned it to low......the stuttering stopped.

It seems there is water in almost every cell. whether it's a small puddle or a body of water (water table? below the land.
I haven't yet looked in GECK though, maybe someone can shed extra light on that thought..

Didn't work for me. The d3d9.dll fixes the stuttering, but I get weird graphical artifacts occasionally. On a GTX470, vista64. Glad it works for some of you!

If by stuttering you mean that horrible jerky motion then thanks for the tip, I'll give it a go, as so far I've only managed to play 20 minutes as it's giving me motion sickness which I've never had in a game like this before. Like yourself I should be able to play this maxed out, my system is all up to date and defragged/debugged/maintained, etc, regularly and this issue never occurred in previous games by Beth using this engine, so I'm not sure why it's happening on this one.

Not tried the d3d9.dll as I'm not too keen on downloading from sites I don't know/trust, but if Beth/Obs don't get their thumb out and fix this soon then I may give in to temptation as I really want to play the game.

D3D9.DLL fixes the issue when you get close to a NPC, the framerate drops.

but for some reasons, the game stutters as if it is streaming data.......but it's not.

after switching the water multisampling to low, it works like a charm now..

This is in the FAQ on Bethesda's support site. Even with no water present, it seems to affect the sky too so basically anywhere outdoors. It's worth a try to set it to low because the visual change is barely noticeable.
