Four eyes: nice or svcky?

While Foureyes and Goodnatured seems to fit my new hero I cant help wondering..
How hard are eyeglasses to come by early?
Will I need that spot for something elses WAY more vital?

Very easy. There are a pair of eyeglasses in the doctor's home.

The place you start at.

Also, there are "sunglasses" that give +2 PER which you can get pretty early on (level 3 for me) from some of the Powder Gangers at the NCR correctional facility - if you decide to kill them (side with NCR at the end of the "I fought the law" quest.)

It's a good feat, unless you want to use a helmet or face mask that prevents you from wearing glasses (like the hockey mask for +5 unarmed)... but melee builds don't need great PER anyway.

Sorry, can't remember. I believe it was somewhere on a table though. Not sure.

In my travels I've found at least four other pairs, counting a pair of sunglasses.

I'm digging the Four Eyes, trait, though I am kind of regretting the second trait I took, small frame. I'm an agility junkie, so I went with it thinking crippled limps wouldn't be much of an issue (never came close most of the time in FO3). I get my limbs crippled in pretty much every medium to difficult fight now, which, on hardcoe mode, is rough. I don't fully regret taking it though, because it adds a nice touch of "hardcoe" realism to things when my limbs get effed up in a fight.

The strategy guide indicates that almost all glasses are +2 per, but i have tried the glasses at Docs and taken Boone's but they have no bonus at all. Is it only unique glasses that have the +2 ?

A lot of people tell me "Four-Eyes" is a gay perk. Preferrably, i never took the trait, but i regret not taking it. Who wouldn't want the extra +1 to Perception? All it is, is a pair of glasses? What i think is the best attribute of glasses is that they don't take up the "hat" or "head" space so long as you don't wear a helmet that doesn't conceal your whole face.

Keep in mind you cannot wear power armor helmets with eyeglasses.

I didn't take small frame and I still get my head crippled in every hard fight. Anyone who is not a generic member of a faction seems to be able to unerringly shoot me in the head from 200 yards away.

its useful if you play legit and are trying to balance stats. You can end up with like +3 extra perception wearing a hat or scarf with sunglasses.

Four eyes is pretty cool, but be careful with it. It actually doesn't quite seem to work the way it says. It seems to give -1 P at all times and +2 P when you have glasses on. On the surface, that seems to equal out to the same thing, but when you factor in prereqs for perks it changes things a bit.

When I created my character I gave him 6 P and then took four eyes as well. However I am unable to take perks that require 6 P. So it looks like I'm going to have to spend a perk on intense training or get an implant for P which I wasn't planning on doing.

Traits effect your base stats, but can be rectified with a bonus quiet simply.

with 6 P as an initial figure then you take '4 eyes' this means that your 'base' perception is reduced to 5 (due to the -1) so you would not be able to take the 6 perception level perks. The plus side of the Trait is that you get a +2 to perception when you wear any glasses, where everyone else without the trait would get no bonus. (I am unsure if the glasses have a +1 perception bonus themselves do you get this and the +2 perception for '4 Eyes' eg getting +3 perception bonus)

This does actually work the way it was intended, Its just that you did not fully understand the consequences of the choice.

Actually that is not what the description of the trait says when you select it. It says "While wearing any type of glasses, you have +1 Perception. Without glasses, you have -1 Perception. " it does not say "You have -1 Perception. While wearing any type of glasses, you have +2 Perception."

It is not possible to fully understand the consequences of the choice when the description is wrong. Regardless of how it was intended it should be worded properly to reflect how it actually works.

By the way, yes the perception bonus from the glasses themselves stacks with the four eyes bonus.

This was definitely a poorly worded trait. I steered clear of it just because I wanted Wild Wasteland and a better combat trait, Trigger Discipline and just spent a point to get a 6 perception at the cost of my strength. Kind of glad I did.

I actually like the trait quite a bit, even with how it really works. Sunglasses and a pre-war hat give me 10 P (and look pretty cool too). Just had to rework things a little to get all the perks I wanted. Not a big deal.

So far it's worked out well for me, apart from radiation suits I've yet to find a situation I can't have my glasses on. However I don't use power armour, I find it too bulky and prefer the mobility offered by light armour but hey I'm not even in Vegas yet and using vault 34 armour (16 DT, light) and the beret, who knows what the future holds!

To clarify the trait, you are take a -1 perception but glasses give you +2 perception (instead of 0). Hat/Glasses combos that are one item don't count. I haven't yet found glasses that normally have a stat boost to see if it gets added or overwritten or doesn't count yet. (Such as Lucky Shades from F3).

Four Eyes = svcky. Take off the glasses and you are down two perception points. It is this number that will be counted for perks.

Small Frame + add one point in perception = Same end result for a less harsh penalty. On hardcoe mode the fragile limbs penalty is very easily countered with doctor's bags and hydra. Both of these you can make yourself. Even if you don't make them you'll find enough, unless you're the type that catches every round fired in your general direction.

I took Four Eyes, and I'm only down Perception point without glasses on, which is what he Perk is supposed to do.

Ah, but compared to having glasses on you are two points down. Otherwise the character is glitched in your favor and the penalty isn't being applied at all.

It's not supposed to be a penalty. It's supposed to be a penalty without and a bonus with.
base 5
no glasses should be 4
with glasses should be 6 + glasses benefit.
right now it's changing the base to 4 and only making it the same as not having the trait.
normally you have 5+1 for wearing glasses
now you have 4+2 for wearing glasses. Why take it?
there is no benefit, penalty only
it's supposed to remain at 5 and give+2 for 7
