Freeplay after main quest

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 4:05 am

I read a few forums where many Fallout players are really dissapointed with the fact that Fallout New Vegas does not allow you to play after the end of the main quest. it is difficult to make all tha changes that are made at the in-game story after the ending of the main quest. You could make this happen at one of your next DL contents. So you could make this happen by unlocking the Wasteland again and do little changes like placing the right NPCs to the right places and create in-game rumors which will explain the current in-game situation, an example for what I'm trying to say is this: .................For a YES MAN victory, Great Khans eliminated, Boomers helped in the battle and started to go out of their base, Ceasars legion defeated, Brotherhood took back Helios One....................you could - after the quest - add Boomers at the wasteland going around, BoS members at Helios One, NCR members at their camps and remove them from Hoover Dam, Securitrons at Hoover dam (The place is owned by the Courier), some thugs in the NV streets and Legion members at their Fort of course and some of them walking around the wasteland. In addition you could make NPCs say rumors like: "the legion after the Great battle are settled in their fort and rarely come out" or (like you already have) some Great Khans around the streets saying "I can't believe they are gone" and little things like these. Side quests remain as they are of course except those who are directly involved with the Great Battle (Like the Remnants quest which you could say for exaple "For Auld Lang Syne failed" after the main quest ends).

Its not quite as simple as placing NPCS

They would need to remove all old NPCs, make sure there scripts from before are properly handled, set about how the quests are cancled and the variables.

Each town and how it was handled (like BOS can be allied to NCR or to mugging people on the high ways of any tech)
then companions.

its just to muhc to put in and then the workloa dof making sure it doesnt cause problems with the stuff already in the game

Suggestions... Suggestions never change.

The devs have already decided that a Broken-Steel-esque DLC will not be happening to keep the ending solid and to emphasize on the story. There have been steps taken to make sure players know when they can still keep free roaming before the final step is initiated.

Broken Steel was doable due to the fact that the story was very linear and the choices made were few in the impact of the final results (compared to NV). New Vegas has way too many factors to deal with to allow for a solid DLC. It would probably be enough work for the devs to make a DLC the size of Shivering Isles (or even bigger given the circumstances). I would like to see the end results of my decisions, but really I think it would be really boring as once an army has won it is over for the others to a point.

The topic has been brought up many times, but just as the choices made in NV are final once done, so are the devs: It will not happen, and it has been stated more than once.

this isn't a simple black and white ending like FO3, I don't see the point. I enjoyed the ending, it was great and we shouldn't play after the ending, it's no good.

As the others have said, this will not happen. For one it would take an inordinate amount of work to do so in an acceptable fashion, and for another they've said several times that there is zero chance of this ever changing.

To the mods: is there any chance of putting up a pinned thread with this info in it in a prominent location and directing all such queries thereto? It would save a lot of hassle.

It will never happen get over it.

Nothing stops you from putting off beating the game until your ready to be done with the character. Nothing forces you into the final quest. You could freeroam for a thousand hours. But then again for some reason you can't spend ten seconds searching the forum for the two dozen other topics made by someone requesting this followed by a long list of responses as to why it will never happen

I think it should be 4 separate dlcs, each 800 MSP ($10) and one for each ending.

You could also buy all 4 for 2600 MSP ($32.50)

Then people could just buy the one that covers their favorite (mine would be the Yes Man ending) or just buy them all for a less price then buying all seperate

Yes It is not what you see in a propper Bethesda RPG right? (Oblivion, Morrowind). What is wrong with the Fallout series?? Fallout 3 is much more enjoyable with Broken Steel. I also had a bad experience with this when I played my first RPG ever (Bethesda made!) the Pirates of the Caribbean cause this was not allowing post ending play too! Nice idea with the DLCs...

They definitely need something from dlc to carry over into the wasteland. It feels almost as if the events of HH and DM never happened at all. Other then minor dialog crap and the gun runners selling 45's it's as if none of the dlc ever happened. I don't think we have to expand the ending but at least expand bits of the over world wasteland and the dlc's effects on it. I think no one wants a broken steel ending, just a dlc that does something to the Mojave wasteland. Whats stopping them from spawning white legs remnants around vegas and giving powder ganger's and other npcs 45's?

At the very end of the ending it says the couriers road is over for now.
Does this mean the couriers returning in future fallouts or was there a DLC originally to expand it past the ending.

I'd rather see gameplay end after the first quest. That'd teach people not to rush things.

I get a big kick out of the fact that every week or two, somebody new joins this forum, and another one of these identical posts appears, as if they were the first person to consider proposing it in a logical manner

only possible way for this to happen is for them to make a completely different disc for the game for all the changes they would have to make

Yea...

At first, I was significantly angry about how there was seemingly no plans about a free roam DLC.

However, I don't feel the same way anymore.

Among many reasons, I do think that this method does emphasize the story (when you finish and realize its actually over, you'll be motivated to go back, change things, and do A LOT more). It also really gives what you do more meaning. Also, like many people have already said, actually making such a DLC for New Vegas would be some difficult work, and I don't know if I really want Obsidian trying to do such a task when they're not faring so well already with simpler DLC's (not undermining the difficulty in making them at all).

a good idea in theory for those that just have to have after ending play. Me I just wouldn t buy any of them. I want the canon ending.

op Caesers guys don t belong at the fort, and NCR got kicked out of the mw in Yes Mans ending................... What you are saying here would be wrong. The 5 endings make it nearly impossible for them to have after ending play. I made a post like this once too, but now I understand that it just can not and will not happen.
