Frequent crashes, too frequent. Related pc issues

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 9:29 am

I bought a copy of Fallout New Vegas 3 days ago, via steam. I trusted this game, in fact its a great game, beyond what i expected. The good thing, besides cool graphic and cool story, is that in 3 day that i played fonv, it crashed more than 30 times. Not 1, 2 or 3, 30 times. I counted them, but i didnt get nervous about crashes of the game itself, those will be resolved with patches I hope. What made me a bit angry is that my game doesnt just crash to desktop, it makes my whole computer to crash! Alt+tab, ctrl+alt+canc and other stuff doesnt works, so i gotta reboot it everytime. Everyone knows that rebooting a machine with some of the system process still active can cause problems, both hardware and software. Now i want to know what the hell is going on, i paid for the game, as well as for my pc, and i dont want to find any damage caused by a game. This is not a joke, its a serious matter. I hope someone, better some developer, knows that to do with this.

Try this if you got a multicore CPU.

This fix coming from Fallout 3.

Open up the fallout.ini file in c:\My Documents\My Games\FalloutNV
Find the line:

bUseThreadedAI=0

change it to:

bUseThreadedAI=1

Add another line after it and insert:

iNumHWThreads=2

Maybe make the fallout.ini readonly after modding helps also.

I cant edit my ini file, its setted to read only, and when i make any modification, then just click on the exe launcher, it restores to the initial status..Guess the launcher create a new ini everytime, because i also tried to apply some graphic tweaking with no results..

This was the correct message thread in which your DxDiag report belonged, not in a separate new message, which just confuses everything.

It isn't quite the correct place for this intervening message, making a total of three today, one of which should not have existed outside of your initial thread:

I have an ati radeon x1950 pro, whose driver are not officially supported by windows 7, things that makes them a little (very very little though) unstable. So i manually disinstalled my 10.2 driver and installed the 9.9 (1 year old, first to be "compatible" with W7). Well, tell you what, no crashes in 1 hour and a half. With the 10.2 a crash occurred like every 20 mins. Ill tell you any news.

That one is OK in its own thread, but have you considered following my advice that I gave you there and in the Fallout 3 forum about the Omega Drivers?

I was just googling them. I read something, but it talks about 10.10 drivers, while mine stops at 10.2

Wrong. If he says his driver works for your X1950, then he has mde sure that it will. When it does work, even though it's "free", you should make a donation to keep the site going.
