Friend or Foe?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:15 pm

How are they making the enemy noticible? Is there gonna be red name tags above there heads like other shooters or are we gonna have to realize who's who by the way there dressed? I'm only asking cuz the videos i did see didn't seem to have the traditional fps name tags above there heads.

They have a red outine around their body. Well that's what I heard.

Like in L4D? Seems a bit obvious. Does it only show when your shooting?

I'm not sure, but I know when they get closer to you then the red line goes away because you'll be able to identiy them from what clothes they wear.

I thought it was a orange line around resistance and blue around security.

Well we know there is a line at least.

A more proper word for the "line" would be "outline". just wanted to correct that :)

Also, when you aim at a team mate a caution sign pops up under the reticle.

I thought I heard somewhere that the outlines could be turned on or off, or maybe it was a skill. hmm. unfortunately I have no proof to back my claim.

The "rim lighting" effect, so called by the devs, gives enemies a red aura that intensifies with distance and fades away the closer to you they are. Your teammates, on the other hand, get a blue aura, but it appears to be much fainter than the red aura around enemies. The blue aura turns orange-yellow when you are in the process of buffing someone, and objectives also seem to have a yellowish-orange glow as well.

And so far as I've heard, it is toggleable, but only on PC.

Its kinda useful the only reason i find to turn it off is to be more immersible.

It should be called "Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Effect", though.

It totally defeats the point of giving each faction unique outfits though. If both factions would have access to exactly the same equipment it would make sense. But then again, why light up the enemy team? Only give allys an outline, so everyone who does not glow is most likely someone you'd rather want to shoot.

Oh i know, im gonna turn it off most likely, but i hardly notice it in the videos... if it bothers in my final game.

Plus i like being immersed in my games, so :D

can someone find a link where this is shown really noticeably?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4k3MMi1G1xw&#t=21s is an example.

Now you might think "oh, well, that's not so bad, is it?" But I'm telling you it will make quite a difference when you play the game yourself and when you play on darker parts of the maps.

And http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVZmN-_O2MY&#t=84s is an excerpt from a gameplay without the glow. (Could be the Container City playthrough.)

I kinda noticed it i think, but i really noticed the blue ally one.. thats annoying.. also health bars...:\ i hate em.

I remember in TF2 when i rarely played as a heavy, most scouts just run away, i don't that to be ruined by a health bar..

Heavy - Low Health 'Imma gonna use threat as a weapon' Win
w/o health bar
Light - Full health 'Oh no a Heavy! LEG IT' Lose

Heavy - Low Health 'Imma gonna use threat as a weapon' Lose
With Health Bar
Light - Full health 'Dumb Heavy, a quick few shots from my Galactic SMG.. and since im quick enough i can take him!' Win

Im gonna take that back lighting off.. pretty annoying..
Health Bar?! It shows my weakness! Near Death!
