From Dust

Post » Mon Jul 25, 2011 6:33 pm

I heard about this gem a long time ago, back when it was first announced. The, on the same forum I found it on, another thread was made about. Here's the info on the game and some links to videos:
From Dust is a god-game genre video game being released on July 27th, 2011. In From Dust, you take the role of "The Breath", a god-like being, who watches over a small tribe of people on a planet that isn't Earth. They are influenced by tribes in Africa. You must protect them from various natural disasters such as giant earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis.

I think it's an XBLA game. I'm probably wrong. It's probably on PSN too. I'm pretty sure it's downloadable though.

I assumed it was, but for some reason I thought it was only going to be on XBLA. I have no idea why.

Great...

Now I have to decide what platform to purchase it for...

It seems like a very cool concept and game engine.

I think it would be better if there were more than one type of tribe you could choose, and some kind of progression of your tribe's civilization.

I remember seeing videos for this a way back, it seems like an interesting idea but i remember wondering whether it actually qualifies as a 'game'. Building an island seems like an interesting thing to do, but i dont see what enjoyment i could get out of it, and i usually really like god games. It strikes me as more of a god simulation.

Also, it seems to just be a graphically glorified http://chir.ag/stuff/sand/.

No, it's not just that. You're leading a tribe across various landscapes to help them locate wisdom "lost by their ancestors." Protecting them from environmental dangers, creating paths where otherwise there wasn't one, etc. As you progress through the game, the tribals regain more of that wisdom, and your powers increase.

4 DAYS?!

I haven't heard much about this since anouncement. But then I don't follow gaming news ever since GTA IV was gushed over by mindless zombie reviewers.

I'm a bit annoyed that it's not being made on a disc version, as this means I will have to spend a day and a half downloading the damn thing, but I hope for a more interesting remake of Populous.

It's also coming out a bit later for PSN.

Then again, depending on the spec requirements, I could always get it for PC.

I remember seeing a gameplay trailer on ondemand about a year ago now. I can't believe that it's coming out in 4 days, I was searching through Gameinformer last night for info on when it's going to come out.

I'm so looking forward to this game. The only thing I'm wondering about is if I should get it for PS3 or PC. I've a feeling the controls will feel more natural with a mouse, but I'd rather have a nice game to go relax on the couch and play.

Hmm...Only 15 bucks too for the PC download. I think it's time to start up a tidal wave.

Ubisoft? No thank you. I assume they'll be pairing it with some of their terrible DRM.

Another reason I'm thinking of getting it on PS3 -- DRM doesn't really affect me on consoles.
