Frostbite Spiders

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 7:48 pm

Hey guys just another topic from Trixy.
Just want your opinion on the spiders from Skyrim. Down in the south-east near Riftin they are everywhere! I walking down the road, and I saw something was attacking me, so I turned and saw the spider. I jumped and choked! I had to pause the game and get a glass of water. lol
But seriousy what do you think of the spiders? Do you think they are cool, annoying, freaky, under-used, over-used, ect.
I'm gonna say they are freaky.

They're creepy, and they were meant to be. A four hundred pound spider is something to take seriously.

A bit too frequent for my taste. Like you say, they're everywhere, and not really a very interesting critter to me. Maybe if they had more alchemical items you could harvest from them, but other than that they're pretty much just a pestilence.

Well, that's what they're meant to be - an unpleasant predator that the people in the area would likely prefer be wiped out.

I think they are well made and fun to fight. They could have made some different spider-types for different regions maybe, but that goes for most of the creatures in general.

I think they are as intended, horrible and creepy. I wish the bosses in the dungeons were bigger and had more tactics (such as climb back on the ceilings and jump big leaps) and more gross animations such as eat trapped people alive, cripple when they lose some legs, and build their webs when they don't detect you.

Oddly, I find them less creepy than normal-sized spiders. Probably because I know real ones don't come in that size.

I actually like fighting them, though. Especially when they lower from the ceiling. A great entrance for brandishing your weapon. And then you finish them off with a sword to the FAAACCCEEE. Squish >:3

They are not creepy or threatening. They seem as a low-level entry challenge enemy, sort of like how you start off fighting rats, bats, and scorpions in most RPGs. They don't move around like spiders, are expected and have limited tactics. If spiders climbed around on ceilings and walls and could ambush you without seeing them, could jump, leap, poison you in different ways, shoot webs etc., they would make more formidable opponents. At least have tiers of spiders that are more threatening. Large spiders are just bigger targets in Skyrim...

should have been kept indoors, just seem out of place running around aimlessly. just points to the lack of truely different enemys tes has without all the strange deadra or beasties of previous titles. And yes i know skyrim technicly has more than ob, but thats not how it 'feels' and ive played 1000s of hours of tes games, and i feel they whacked in spiders out side just to increase diversity. As for being scary i dont see it, some ungainly pixal based solifues dont give me the creeps. Maybe if they did more than just the odd one dropping from the celling. I think i would have been more creeped out if they were half the size of the smallest ones, and came in 10s to support the massive ones. A true spider would have been more freaky imo aswell, than the sudo spikey solifues we have in game. I do like them but some fat body gloss black spider with gangly legs would have been nice for some variability. Then the current spiders would look more at home out side as they kind of build a hunting spider would have, leaving the phaties indoors for some scary dungeon fun, having them run around freely just seems wrong, giant mobile communal agro spiders would own all within a few months lol.

Aren't they creepy enough already??

I think the spiders are very well done, but you see so many of them that they start to lose their effect since you start to get used to them.

I just wish they had more spider variants as what somebody said earlier. Other than that i don't mind them too much.

I'm not arachniphobic, but spiders with hair on them all need to die. Die a horrible slow death.

They aren't all that threatening objectively, but they're creepy enough that I make sure I kill them as fast as possible.

I think they are pretty well done, the sound effect they used put my teeth on edge. More variety would be nice, once we get the CK it is likely we will see an expanded bestiary. I don't really worry about them as I don't believe I have ever really been hurt by them, if you compare them to say Daggerfall spiders which I feared, mostly cause they paralyzed; which at lower levels meant death.

I wish they were more sneeky, I wish I could get attacked from behind at night more just to give that jump factor when strolling along the moon lit road.

I remember during my first play-through when I didn't know much about how the game works, my character got killed by those things frequently. I remember running away and not wanting to look back. Now they are just another thing to kill.

They look cool, I'll give them that.

They are freaky and awesome, and they look terrific. Maybe they're a tab overused but that's ok. I spoiled them with my first game because I realised Kyne's Peace works on bugs so they lost all their freakiness, so I'm purposely not unlocking it again so I can enjoy battling them... or running from them.
