Future Patch FixesTweaks Ideas For Bethesda

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 1:16 am

Hello Bethesda, I don't know how well this thread will do, but I just thought it would be nice to have a place to share ideas or reaffirm the need for certain fixes/tweaks that weren't addressed in patch 1.4 for future patches:

1) I propose you make it so most people RUN from dragons when they attack, especially merchants and quest givers. Make them run to the nearest church or their homes so they have less of a chance of dying. You would still have guards to help you fight the beasts and it would be more realistic and more importantly, less aggravating when someone you don't want to die dies, and then their bodies lay where they fall FOREVER. Or maybe a quicker fix is to give people strong healing potions/spells that they ONLY use for a dragon attack. That way if you get into a fight with the NPC they won't keep healing all their life so fast, because they only heal so much during a dragon attack.

2) And the bug where the original save file created that you can use as a manual save can be overwritten when starting a new character really needs to be fixed. I lost 2 builds with that bug and I've heard from many other people it's happened to as well.

3) Animals running into the nearest body of water and drowning. This is an immersion killer and I feel that their paths, especially for smaller animals like rabbits should not tell them to run into the freezing currents when I get close to them. In general animal AI is unrealistic. I find it's usually easier to run up on a deer and kill it with a sword than to creep slowly and shoot it with an arrow or two.

4) This is a big one. FIX THE HOTKEY SYSTEM! It's not working correctly at all. You know what I'm talking about. ... I hope. But for example I want to hotkey my sword and shield but after I first attack with a ranged weapon/spell and try to use the two hotkeys (two? really?) they won't even equip. My hands go bare and I have to sheathe/unsheathe to get my sword and shield to finally come out. It has gotten me killed so often that I don't use the hotkey system anymore in it's broken state.

5) Make the water textures move a tiny tiny bit faster. I find that they move a little too slow and look unrealistic. Waterfalls look great though.

6) Prioritize the loading of some textures like the ground and tree branches, as too often they either take 5 minutes to pop in or they just stay blurry forever. Most of my shorter green pine branches are all blurry now and never fully load in. Speaking of the the pine branches, look at the ends of them, the way they were cut out with alpha (see-through) outer edges was done very mediocre in some instances and doesn't make any logical sense. Redo that texture.

7) As for textures in general, it seems the 360 has either less compressed/or larger pixel ratio textures, and that is with the PS3's AA filter in mind. If you look at the chainmail, leather and hair textures you will see what I mean. The theory is that as a quick fix for the lag in an earlier patch you actually reduced the size and/or compressed a lot of textures for the PS3. All I'm saying is once you figure out the memory leaks and better allocate memory management I would really appreciate bringing back the higher resolution textures.

8) When riding a horse, if you get too close to it with the camera the horse disappears yet your character is still floating in air. Total immersion breaker. Please make the camera either not be able to get close enough for this to happen, or let the camera go through the horses' mesh. I would rather look at the inside of my horse for a second or two than look at my character float like he's straddling a horse, and it always takes a few seconds for the horse to reappear. (In case some people don't know, you have to click down on both sticks to control the third person camera distance. And there is one camera distance setting for weapon drawn and another setting which is saved for weapon sheathed. I'm not sure if there is a third setting for horse riding but it needs to be tweaked so the horse doesn't disappear or something.)

9) Change the font! Either make it bigger and more medieval looking, or at least just enlarge it a tiny bit as it's futuristic/modern/condensed look really bugs me and is hard to read sometimes. I miss the font from the last two Elder Scrolls games.

I will post more proposals for future patches fixes/tweaks when I get around to it and think of some. I am curious what other people think should go into future patches. Of course the most important fix we are all waiting for is the lag fix and the quest fixes along with other bugs such as the followers and their bugs such as bows not equipping like they should. And remember, we most likely only have a couple more patches coming at best so we need them to pack as many good fixes/tweaks to perfect this game in them as possible. Thank you for taking the time to read this thread.

It's a shot in the dark but I figure the more threads like this the more these kinds of fixes/tweaks will be in the back of some of their minds as they continue to improve upon this game.

Todd is a ninja in that dark, man.

You shoot an idea and he dodges it.

And then he throws a horse armor ninja star to your face.

OP I really really agree with your save file bug, that needs to be fixed ASAP.

They should fix areas so they respawn properly, the enemies never respawn on the outside of dungeons and its been over a year in game time this is on both cleared and not cleared dungeons.

They should fix the game so the game cleans up weapons, arrows, and ash piles. I know patch 1.4 is supposed to address ash piles but as of right now there is still instances where ash piles do not clean up properly. I have my fingers crossed that the issue is resolved when the patch goes live.

Also there is places where alchemy plants have not respawned again its been a while over a month intake time since I have been in certain areas, every plant in the area has respawned but a select few scattered around. There is another instance in Riften the garden you have in Honeyside I picked everything there I go back to that place I know two or three months later and nothing respawned except one plant.

in the 1.4beta "collect the bounty from skald" is still getting left in my quest log after I collect the bounty, and they accumlate so i don't do bounties in Dawnstar. That would be a nice fix.

Does anyone who is using the 1.4 patch already know if ash piles are cleaning up correctly? Or are some that were there before the patch not going away?

I hope Bethesda is already hard at work on patch 1.5 and keeps making this game more playable until most of us can consider it finished.

I find the scripting which causes you to unsheath your weapon multiple times terribly disappointing.

I'm sure most of my others will be mentioned by others, things like this:

Then there is the repeating NPCs, like the woman that works at Warmaidens. Just hang out there and do some smithing a few times, and you will be prepared to kill her. You cannot even engage her in conversation without her shoving more braggatory crap down your face. Try to interrupt and she'll just brag about something else. Rinse and repeat.

Yes I have head multiple instances where I was locked in a conversation with someone and I had to load a save, or nobody would talk to me at all, or their inventory would never come up, even when they are in their stores and saying that they have goods for sale.

Tying spell effectiveness to their spell's respective magic skill would be nice, while it's all well and good spells becoming cheaper in cost, for some spells (namely damage spells and illusion spells) if they don't pass a certain threshold, they become near-worthless. Also, making dual casting not eat up your magicka like a kid with a plate of cookies, with more than just a 10% increase in effectiveness over just casting it twice for less cost.

Good points. Some fine tuning to some of the spell equations and duel-casting would definitely be welcomed in a future patch. Let's just hope they get enough of the bigger problems out of the way so they can actually make a couple patches for what patches are supposed to be for, fine-tuning game mechanics, not for completing broken and unfinished games. And yes, I know sometimes games need patches for bigger issues like some minor glitches and sometimes even instances where games can freeze, but let's face it, that's not the norm and this game was not even CLOSE to being finished and it's like they didn't even test it at all, which just isn't true, it's impossible. Therefore they KNEW the bad shape it was in and just LIED and released it anyway$.

1) Lower smithing's base effectiveness on improving equipment.
1a) In combination (And only in combination) with the above, Improve the efficacy of all Weapon-specific Perks.
1b) Leading off those two, give enemies appropriate armor ratings/skills for their type. (Simultaneously fixes Maces/Warhammers and improves Axes against armor)

The goal would be to essentially keep the same "Level of power" in the game, but creating much more distinct feels between the weapons, and the mastery of said weapons.

2) Make Dragons harder and more varied between types. It's kind of sad that an Ancient Dragon is just a Lesser Dragon with more HP and a nastier bite.

3) Fix Dragon Priest and Centurion AI. Very often, they spawn unable to attack. Such a tragic end to such awesome enemies.

4) Fix the Radiant Story issue, where the game will set an already-killed target as the objective, breaking the quest forever.

5) Fix the display items, particularly the plaques in Honeyside and all the Mannequins. Not sure what's going on here, just know I have 62 Savior's Hides.

6) Add spears. It's time, we've earned it.

There's a lot more, most already mentioned.

I just want to see them fix the issue of followers not levelling properly.

The option to organise and prioritise your items in storage would be nice too.

Change "Ebony mail" and "Savior's Hide" to some kind of allrounder armor. So lets say if you wear "Savior's Hide" + Scaled Boots + Scaled Bracers + Scaled Helmet, "Savior's Hide" + Nightingale Boots + Nightingale Gloves + Nightingale Hood ect., or "Ebony mail" + Ebony Helmet + Ebony Boots + Ebony Gautlets ect., so that it will work with the matched set perk.

Add +1 extra perk point and the option to u reset all your perk points for reading "Oghma Infinium".
