So, I came back to Skyrim after a few months. I last played under patch 1.1 or 1.2. I downloaded the new high res pack, as well as the construction set. Updated a few mods, mostly meshes and items, nothing really important. Could remove them at once and it wouldn't mean anything.

Well... none of my quests work, across all characters. If I go to retrieve an item I'm supposed to retrieve, the objectives don't update. If I go to return a quest (for example, "Retrieval"), I have no dialogue options for it. I checked old saves across different characters, for instance a save set before going to sleep that triggers a certain conversation and quest. I go to sleep and... nothing happens.

My game is completely broken. Did one of the new patches have this potential side effect? Have others experienced this?

I've not seen anything like this. It probably is mod related, as they will have problems when the game updates.

Can't be mod related, because I don't have any mods that actually involve .esp files. They're just meshes. I guess I'll just try a reinstall... seems like the only possible solution.

edit: reinstall did not work. I can't do anything. New games don't even work--they never start. I have a save loaded at Helgen just before the character creation thing, and the character creation screen never appears, and nothing happens. The dialogues fire, but nobody does what they're supposed to.

What the heck is going on? I'm going to try a clean wipe--removing the Skyrim saves and configuration directory altogether, and removing anything left in my install directory. If the game still doesn't work, then I will be needing some answers.

edit2: Fresh reinstall fixed it, and my saves work too. Still have the "Retrieval" quest bugged, but it looks like I'm far from the only one there. At least new games and other quests work.

there are some quests bugged, afaik, these quests are not the main quest.
