I think this problem has been addressed in another topic, but I feel mine is slightly different. I open the launcher, then a black screen appears. Before a box saying "Fallout has encountered a problem" or something similar to that, appears. This prevents me from playing. I have no mods installed.

What's your system specs? Sounds as if you don't meet the minimum requirements.

I have a similiar problem.I run the game through steam,launcher pops-up i click play and a little box in the upper left corner shows and after few seconds it gose unresponding so i have to Ctrl+Alt+Del and end proces.I tried many things,Disablin Steam cloud,Updating drivers(Have Nvidia drivers 260.99,Realtek drivers R255) trying to bypass intro movie by disabling in .ini ,running compatibility mode(both XP Service pack 3 and Vista Service pack 2) and I dont know what else to try as the game doesnt give any error upon going un-responding. Some advice would be greatful.
