Game crashes when I exit Doc Mitchell's house : Fallout: New Vegas

Hello,

So I installed Fallout: New Vegas on my brand new laptop (with Windows 7) yesterday, and while everything is fine during the first few minutes of the game, once I try and leave Doc Mitchell's house for the first time, which means I can't do anything. My copy of New Vegas used to work perfectly (well, as well as New Vegas can run, anyway) on my other laptop, which used Vista.

Since it wasn't my first time playing, I had installed a few mods, including one that modifies the weather and sky, so I first thought it was responsible for the crash (which seems to be due to the outside world, since I still get the loading screen for a few seconds but it crashes when it's done loading), but even now, without any mod and after getting rid of their files, it still crashes. I'm putting both my regular DXDIAG and the 64-bit one, because I'll admit I don't really have a clue about the difference between the two.

If it helps, for short I'm using a Windows 7 64-bit with 4Go of RAM. I also suspect it either hates me or is cursed by an ancient Aztec god (Minecraft lags a lot, crashed both my MP4 and my mouse that were connected to it yesterday, twice). Here's the DXDIAG...

EDIT: before you ask, no I haven't tried re-installing it. I would, but DLing 7gigs took me about 2 days and a half and it crippled the internet connection for the entire house. I live in the country so it's not really good to start with. Thanks, Steam.

If you own the DVD version you can install it from disc and only need Steam for the updates.
I'm not sure how I did it when I installed NV, but I think you can do it by cancelling the download and putting Steam into offline mode.

But anyway you could also try verify the game-cache integrity before reinstalling.
This shouldn't take as much time as reinstalling...

Yeah, I read about that after I posted this...I think I'll try it this week-end. I think maybe something went wrong with the install or one of the mods corrupted part of my data. Wouldn't be the first time that happened, I suppose. Thanks.

Recently I had a few problems involving my new vegas crashing with very weird circumstances such as looting armor off an npc. I had done a reinstall by directly DL'ing the game and it had the same issue as before. So the last time i did a reinstall i deleted everything saves, ini, and reinstalled with the disk, which I'm surprised so many people have an issue with. After it had done the update, I was able to play it for a few hours crash free. (which was a first mind you)

Not sure how much of this pertains as the error I experienced is different but it helped me by doing a completely fresh install this way.

Thank you guys for the info. I've finally managed t oresolve it, although I'm not entirely sure what caused the problem and what solved it. Here's how I did it, if anyone were to run into the same kind of problem:

1. Uninstalled the game

2. Deleted anything that had something to do with FNV, including the hidden and temporary files

3. Read around and found out that some ASUS programs (that I have, since my computer's an ASUS) can mess with Fallout 3 and NV, and uninstalled a few.

4. Reinstalled it with the disc, which only took about half an hour

5. Waited for the updates and Dead Money to load and install

6. Experienced a crash on the first launch every time it tried to set the quality and pondered if throwing my laptop through the window would be worth repaying my father for both

7. Used a CD given with the computer to reinstall all the ASUS programs I had uninstalled earlier

8. Updated my graphics card

9. Sacrificed a goat to Zeus

10. Launched the game. Success!

So step 3, 5, 7 and 9 are optional in this case. However it does seem that sometimes ASUS programs can conflict with Fallout, so I suggest, if anyone has a problem on the same brand, checking if you have any of these...but don't delete them if you don't know whether you can put them back on!

EDIT: I should point out that on the first game (the one where I kept crashing), controls felt a bit slow, I couldn't pick up things as quick as I could on my old computer, but now things are back to normal.
