Game doesn't recognise keyboard input. : Fallout: New Vegas

Please help me with this- I was a ways through the game and then I get this problem: the game doesn't accept/recognise keyboard input at all, the mouse however works (i've seen a similar error where both the both the mouse and keyboard are unresponsive). I don't have a controller connected, someone elsewhere on another forum claimed to have a problem where the firewall was asking if they wanted to "allow Fallout NV to detect keystrokes" it doesn't appear to be that, and I've added the game to the list of allowed applications.
I've updated my drivers, scanned for viruses and the like although It finds nothing.

I'm unsure when the problem occurred or if I did anything to cause it (I think the problem may have arisen after a patch?)

One last bit of information which i'm not sure is relevant but I was using a dualshock type usb controller for a game at one point, but I think that was after I had the issues with Nv and I don't remember it coinciding with those problems. I don't know how it might have affected my system afterward (when i'm not using the controller at least) anyway.. heres the dxdiag report:

Are you using any mods? Check your control options in game to see if the key assignments have been cleared. If they have rebind them.

nope i'm not using any mods, I can't rebind any keys it doesn't recognise any keystrokes.

*edit* i've just tried verifying the integrity of the game cache and I get a message saying: "1 files failed to validate and will be reacquired" but it doesn't appear to download anything, when I try verifying again later I get the same message.

I have run into the same problem.

I had been playing the game for a few weeks and now it doesn't recognize keyboard.

Same problems you are pointing out.

I tried, re-installing, back loading an older version of my Windows/XP environment. I use Norton's Ghost to save/restore disk images.

However, it keeps on happening.

I think I am getting the same message you mentioned , but it flashes so fast I cannot read it.

That thought has occurred to me.

The game suddenly does not see/look for USB Keyboards.

I suppose that is one way to solve the problem.

The bigger point is it was working and someone in Steam or Bethesda did something in an update that is making this happen and it should be corrected.

I haven't had a PS/2 keyboard around for a long time nor should I have to resort to buying one as a result of someone's poor testing of an update.

This is all coincident with the new add-on being made available "Dead Money".

Hopefully, someone gets around to fixing this issue real soon.

Actually you wouldn't have to buy a new keyboard you would just need a USB to PS2 plug converter. I do agree that no one should have to do this though.

This is one of the few problems introduced with the new patch and Dead Money that I haven't experienced. (Yet!) I use a gaming keyboard and gaming keypad that both require manufacturer's drivers in order to attain full functionality. I believe that FNV still recognizes the drivers thus both devices still work. Since FNV seems to have stop hooking Windows default drivers you may want to try installing a new keyboard driver (should be available from your OEM/ keyboard manufacturers website).

Of course you shouldn't have to do this either but if we want to continue playing the game we will have to continue coming up with these kinds of hacks until Beth/Obsidian release the patch patch!
