well running in fullscreen has been the main problem the whole time. if i try to run fullscreen, any time im outdoors it becomes a slide show and crashes in about 10 seconds (sometimes immediately upon entering an outdoor area). it runs like glass with all settings on high in windowed mode...i can usually get in anywhere from 1 to 5 hours before it crashes in windowed mode (again except msz...which has random ctd's that i cant seem to stop)
the only other game i have problems with is borderlands...which either starts or doesnt...once that game is up and running its fine, i just have to launch it 2 or 3 times before it plays. no other games give me problems at all...and i run everything on the highest settings (although i usually turn shadows down)
We share the same video card, the same amount of RAM, and the same OS [only technically... I run WinXP64].
different CPU's but both AMD, multicore.
Right now (lately) the game runs pretty smooth (with no DLC loaded), but will still lock up occasionally during combat (possibly its combat of more than a few enemies at once ~like say 5 or more).
Can you tell me if your game crashes more often in combat than at other times?
I have not found a solution to my crash problem, but it almost always happens during combat, where I could play for hours by avoiding combat ~or at least it really seems this way.
I have trouble with the MZ DLC (game often crashes while starting a new game (or reloading) when MZ is loaded), so I disable it.
ive been trying to fix this problem since day 1...with no luck, so i just gave up on it.
I've run Fallout 3 since 2008, but I've had this problem since day 1 of installing the GOTY edition.
