Game freezes as soon as it loads.

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 11:24 pm

I already have 50+ hours of the game working perfectly, but recently Skyrim has been freezing as soon as a loading screen finishes to resume a save game or to start a new game. I have already tried disabling all my mods and re-installing the game with no success. I've also updated all of my drivers and whatnot, but I still can't get the game to load for me. It was working perfectly the last time I tried a play, about 2-3 weeks ago. Sometimes I'll be able to move for 1-2 seconds tops before it freezes. Once it freezes, I can't crtl+alt+delete. I HAVE to do a hard reboot on my system.

Anybody have any ideas on what I can do? I can post dxdiag if needed, but I doubt it's a hardware problem like that since the game worked for me in the past and I would say that my system specs are more than sufficient for Skyrim.

Thanks

There are both hardware AND software environment variable that can change. One of the most nefarious is Microsoft's assumption that it knows better than you do what to change in your OS. Always turn their automatic updates OFF. Anyway, for the sake of communication, go ahead and give us the picture of both hardware and software (have you changed drivers on anything or allowed Microsoft to change any?)

I can't think of anything that has changed over the past few weeks aside from me installing and then uninstalling a few mods. Since then I have re-installed the game, though. Nothing has worked. And sorry for the late response -- here is dxdiag info:

Bump for the sake of me wanting to play video games again!

I would appreciate any ideas people had as to why this is happening. The EXACT same freezing issue has been happening when playing Black Ops, too. Both of these games freeze as soon as the loading finishes. Frame rate is 60 before the freeze; everything seems normal.

Have you tried reinstalling your graphics driver? (obviously uninstall your current one first)

Also try and reinstall direct x (no need to uninstall the current version). Same goes for c++ redistribution thing ;)

Tried re-installing everything that you listed and then some -- still no success. Also tried disabling various sound devices, since some other forums claim that sound may be the issue. As of right now, I still can't even load a game in Skyrim without my entire PC freezing and needing a reboot : /

I would really love some help if anybody has an idea. It's amazingly frustrating to try all these minors things that don't work when I have to wait 10 minutes between each try while my computer does a hard reboot.
