If it's 4.0 why have I never had a freeze apart from when I play Skyrim?

I'm not saying it is or isn't, I just don't understand how it's my firmware update when that update is not giving me trouble...

It's for some people, not everybody is having issues with 4.0. Just like not everybody is having the same issues with Skyrim in general.

Yeah I'm beginning to see that software bugs are quite the complex issue.

It's hard to say at this point, as I haven't had another freeze on a non-skyrim game SINCE creating this post.

While 4.0 might be a problem, that one freeze might have been a fluke.

I wouldn't write 4.0 off as safe yet, but I'm starting to lean away from the fact actually.

PS3 4.00 was released because SONY are off on xmas break. This means its pretty much impossible to get patches out to people via PSN and Bethesda are not allowed to release a patch on thier website for Skyrim on the PS3. So thats pretty much that. Yes I agree, it was rather insidious that SONY would release a new firmware on the back of some simple problems with a major release. The file system rebuilder was already in the safe mode options so that they have decided to force it to enable after system crash means to me that they expected these problems with Skyrim and decided to offer up this little helper to make sure no one destroys thier hard drive file system beyond repair.

Now I hope people realise that Firmware 4.00 ushers in PS Vita functionality and removes PSP ones. This of course changed the PS3 database entiely as even elements of a data tree that are not used need to be accounted for in your games data structure where the two run concurrently.

wait it removed PSP functionality?? those F**kers i dont want a vita but i have a PSP that im happy with why the hell do companies try to push you into upgrading when you don't want to......ugh im allready annoyed i had to upgrade my TV to a HD tv because i couldn't play dead island or gears of war 3 (yes i have an xbox in the room its my boyfriends the PS3 is mine but we sometimes play each others consoles) on my working standard definition TV due to no 50Hz compatibility in that game and we were worried skyrim would do the same -.- *grumbles* sorry i know pointless rant but its annoyed me

No need to be sorry. I completely sympathise with you. SONY did this because they want people to sellout, yet again, for another unit and games for it. No other company would to this. The Wii support all Nintendo consoles no matter the era and if you do not have the origial game and unit to play it on you can download it for a small fee.

SONY see this and take it to the next level. They make sure you are paying full price yet again, all over again. Like I said my PS3 is a BR player thats waiting for the next big money scheme by SONY to justify them turning off everything about this unit so that they can maximise thier profits. Just business I guess.

Game freezing, but an interesting side note...it wasn't Skyrim.

So I decided to take a break from Skyrim today and play the new COD. It was only a couple hours in and the game froze.

Now, I played Black Ops pretty religiously for a while and never got a freeze.

I'm starting to wonder if it's part of the 4.0 PS upgrade that happened about the same time everything started happening with Skyrim.

Either way, has anyone else seen other games having similar freezing problems that seemed to start after 4.0?

This is truly an interesting observation. I haven't encountered nearly a fraction of the problems many others have.
  • System/version: Slim 160hd 4 months old, Firmware v3.72, with two games installed (Skyrim, Crysis 2).
  • Save info: 9308kb at 98.36.09 hours played lvl 30
  • Performance: Lag in Riften, and a few interiors (most notable are Dwemer Ruins and others with heavy particle effect or animated meshes) Intensive AI doesn't seem to affect system performance. Overall lag is tolerable and not show stopping. One crash when fast-traveling. Auto-save is off across the dash. There is some occasional navigation delay in menus, usually with save management.

I've had about 5 or 6 freezes, but I have 200+ hours, so that's not that much. I have not upgraded to 4.0, and haven't had any freezes in a while.

I was playing the Fallout 3 "Game of the Year" edition (all the DLC on it) and I had finished all the main story line and was doing the expanded content, when it kept freezing. And this was all before Assassin's Creed: BROTHERHOOD (not Revelations, but Brotherhood) was out. So I had to stop playing Fallout 3. I blame my own hoarding and packratting for the freezes, though. I had a locker with 4000 lbs of junk/stuff in it, but no vendors had any money to buy it off me, and it kept stacking up.

Moral Of The Story: On Skyrim I don't hoard so much stuff in my house. Back in Oblivion, I didn't have to because the shopkeeps all had infinite money of a set # (800) gold. Also, selling a lot of items lowers your save file. I tested it :)

Imo theres so many variables it's almost impossible to isolate the problem. On the other hand i've had Madden12 freeze on me before a couple times. Could be as simple as overheating.

This is an interesting point. I've been getting a lot of freezes of late, and I've also been stacking a lot of stuff to sell.

Maybe I'll do a little spring cleaning and see if it gets better.
