I have two big gripes with the Fallout 3 interface which I am hoping will not carry over to Fallout Online.
First off, I cannot stress enough how much I dislike the Fallout 3 inventory. It is very annoying to deal with, and all the items are listed in that green text which is overused throughout the annoying Pip Boy-centered interface, which unfortunately accesses most of the game's menus. I much more prefer the graphical inventory of classic Fallout, which shows a realistic picture of each item. Some goes for all the other menus, such as the character or skills windows. The classic interface was more convenient and looked better.
The Pip Boy-centered interface brings me to my other gripe, the Pip Boy itself.
Bethesda focused way too much on the Pip Boy. Obviously they spent time developing it so it would be something of their own to contribute to the Fallout world, and they were proud of it, and so they shoved it in everyone's face as much as possible.
Truth is, in Fallout 1/2, the Pip Boy never really was that main of an aspect. It just happened to be some kind of a personal computer that the character carried, leaving the rest to the player's imagination. Now thanks to Fallout 3, we are limited to Bethesda's interpretation of the Pip Boy.
To be honest, I would actually prefer if Fallout Online completely ignored the Fallout 3 Pip Boy, and just went back to featuring a simple button on the interface for quickly and conveniently accessing it, while once again leaving the rest to our imagination.
Cheers. Irony.cc
