Game just Crashes!

Morning all... I had a few issues with Fallout3 but I must say the guys at 'Support' from Bethesda were really great and after a few e-mails back and forth we were able to get it to work without too much trouble. The game still freezes every now again but I'm prepared to live with that. After playing extensively and with all the add-ons for almost 500 hours I decided to purchase Fallout New Vegas a few days ago, what a dissapointment. I have since installed it and gone through the whole process of waiting for 'Steam' to do the final download and upon clicking on play it just crashed and continues to do so. The first screen opens, something that looks like credits, after that another screen of what looks like the desert starts to open, the screen flickers a bit and then I'm kicked out to the 'Steam' menu and that's about it. I've re-booted, I've scoured the Net for help, applied a few fixes but to no avail and now I'm just frustrated, angry and generally not too impressed. I mailed 'Steam' and Bethesda and have still not recieved any word as to what I need to do... Is there anybody that can tell me what I'm supposed to do to sort this problem out... PLEASE HELP!!!

Just to add... I included Fallout3 in my 'Steam' game library and it play just fine. Click on the Play button and I'm in... Why New Vegas won't do it is beyond me.

Right... I got it working... A few months ago I installed a Codec Pack (K-Lite) and what I eventually figured out is that ffdshow.exe was conflicting with Fallout New Vegas. It was a simple fix, I unistalled the software package and it worked first time... I so stoaked!!!
