Hi

Just bought New Vegas, Which I've really looked forward to play, but although my specs are fine, and that I can run old fallout 3 with high settings without any problems, the game lags.

The lagging is not constant, the first 5 min or so goes fine, graphics runs smooth. But after a while when i've moved around a bit the game start lagging periodically, something like 10-20 seconds out of every minute, where audio repeats and video is "hacking", very unsatisfying. This also happens with the lowest video settings. (it auto detects to medium.)

Really hoping that somebody can assist me on this!! Brgds, Christian

Hi again,

I've now tried to:

-Put all graphic settings to an absolute minimum

-Clearing codecs as described in: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35868, which resulted in the game not starting at all, not sure what i did wrong, but took a restore point and was back again

-Set Nvidia's "Power management mode" to prefer maximum performance for falloutnv

-tried the multicore .ini tweak as described in http://segmentnext.com/2010/11/02/fallout-new-vegas-tweak-guide/

All these things have helped a bit, but still leaves the game almost unplayable with framerates dropping to 2-3 per second, once in a while, especially with many NPC's around. This low framerate goes on for 20-30 seconds clears again for a while to return..
30 secs later


Any suggestions for what to try next ?

Doubt the d3d9 would help much, IIRC it was typically more for newer GPU's that were having issues early on.

Is this a laptop? If it is, it might for some reason be just not quite powerful enough (or the game isn't optimized enough), even if the base system info sounds like it should, and yes even if FO3 ran ok. I don't know much about laptops vs. desktop equivalents etc. tho, just seem to recall a lot of laptops w/lag way back when. Since I mostly only ever have simple possibilities which you've already tried/read (most of the good tech ppl are gone/rarely come by now ) I'm not much help I'm afraid. There's always trying XPcompatibility mode. :biggrin:

The stutter remover requires NVSE so make sure you have that first.
The stutter remover is simply a single .dll file that is placed in a folder you create within the Fallout New Vegas/Data directory (the mod site page describes that fairly well I think) and then you can just copy the .dll file into it.

Yes, its a laptop ASUS G50v, so maybe thats the issue.. Cause specs should be fine.. Hmmm.. Thats really annoying, Nvidia 9600 should be fine.. ?

XPcompatibility doesnt do anything but the stutter remover has helped. but still not perfect, I can run with absolutely minimum graphics, for upto half an hour, by then it starts lagging severely and the laptop needs cooling off before i can play again. Sometimes longer if theres no combat with multiple NPCs, which really brings it down.

Its really a pity that it runs so awfull, the game seems great and the story a lot more entertaining than FOB3 ..
Any further advice would be appreciated!
