Game really needs a respec option.

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 2:40 pm

As title says I believe the game really needs a respec option for perks. The game is way too long for there not to be one.

Say I was 30 hours into a game primarily as a two hander. Well I start to lose interest and decide it would be fun to give good old sword and board a try. But I am basically screwed out of those 10 or so perks used in two handed tree. I am far too invested into the character to simply start over with 30 hours put into him already and I have no desire to continue playing as a two hander. It is not hard to get 50 or so hours into skyrim and still have a lot left to do. This is where a respec option would really be useful.

Possible way to implement it. Some old mage in the mountains. Says something like "If you give X amount of money or specific item(s) I can rearrange the stars for you". Or something like that. Another way would involve some ancient book which would probably be easier since it would not require any VA to come in and record additional voice work.

I dont know. I am probably just frustrated at picking some wrong perks. What does everyone else think? This topic has probably been done to death so I apologize.

Oh and this thread is primarily for console users as I am sure PC users have already found a way to do this via console commands or mod.

But in all seriousness, that's usually what creating a new character is for.

If your only Lv.30 then you can still level up your one-handed tree, it will be a slow process but not as slow as it would be had you been at Lv.50ish. There's also the Ogham exploit ( if you haven't done the quest already ) which you can use to perk what you want to on top of two handed, I have a Lv. 81.5 that's skilled in both one-handed and two-handed trees, along with bolck etc...etc... So that's always an option, you don't even need to go all the way up to Lv.81, you can stop at any point and choose what level you want to stop at.

Or you can learn from your mistake and start over with a new toon, 30 hours really isn't that much time to invest into the game. My longest lasting toon would have been 300-400 hours in if that save file didn't bug out on me, next is my current Lv.81 he's running on 150 hours.

30 hours on a TES game is next to nothing. And All these games that have resets, I can understand getting new knowledge, but what is their justification for the 'speed-forgetting' your character does?
And of course the three golden words that all games should remember : choices and consequences.

I also think they game needs a respec option, the game IS way to long to not have one. Its not a good way to force people to make new characters.

Should have thought it out more  not trying to be a dic# or anything but you should have planed your build before starting, like Zen said choice and consequence.

But I can't really complain, because it was on page 2 and I might well have done the same thing myself.

As a very indecisive player I agree whole heartily.

No i like having choices and live with the consequenses.

OK? Good. Nothings stopping you from still doing that.

Ha ha what do you mean force? It's one of the joys of the game that you can make vastly different characters, and see Skyrim from different points of view.

I get the same feeling as the OP sometimes but I find having multiple active characters helps. Start a new character and play a different way and when you feel like it go back to your current character.

With the removal of classes permanant perks should never change. What would make you start a new character since you can join all factions, fully upgrade all skills to level up and if you had your way reset perks?

Precisely. A character is a character; choices made should not be able to be undone. If you spend six months learning how to do framing for a house, and decide you don't care about knowing it any more, you can't swap that out for knowing how to rebuild a carburetor; you have to spend the time learning how to rebuild the carburetor regardless.

Damn, playing more than one character is not the horrible grind some people make it out to be.

Do we really need a second thread about this today? Just two spots below this is the exact same thread with the exact same argument.

Thats what new characters are for. The beauty of Bethesda games is that you can't try every character spec every time. It always interesting to start a new character and see what you missed. If we had a respec option it would defeat the purpose of our original choices

Skyrim needs the option at least. Even if its not included in the game world but in the options menu. So if a player feels the need to use it they can and anyone that says no to a optional respec in a single player game... Well they are the same people that complain about people using an optional exploit in a single player game. More options for players means a happy fan base as a whole, you wouldn't have to use it.
