In Game RP?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 7:40 pm

Well I don't know about you guys but something that always seemed interesting to me in TES was to Roleplay. I know its a single player game but, i always thought it was fun to make up a little back story and be Realistic about a lot of things. I always found my self doing this in multiple games but by far my favorite was Oblivion and i think skyrims going to be quiet the game changer for myself. Mostly because of the new-age graphics and the great (so far) looking character creation, clothing options, death scenes, and dragons. I think this will be the greatest game of the year.

I have always liked to roleplay as a hunter in Oblivion.. Hunt deers fir a long distance, hunt wolves and such and then after a week or so in the wild go sell my stuff in IC...
I hope Skyrim has more RP elements and wild-life..

Go on the Oblivion forum, there are players who have written volumes about their character's virtual lives, what they are like as a person, who their friends are etc., mention anything like that here and you could be accused of LARPing, playing make believe, and being into Barbie dress up. I was accused of all of these, because I mentioned a character's wine collection. That was even in a thread which basically said anyone who uses their imagination shouldn't be playing Skyrim, and should stick to pen and Paper.

My advice, role play as much as you like, pretend your character is an alien from another planet visiting Nirn if it makes you happy, and don't give a damn about what anyone else thinks.

Since I'm probably the only one awake at this time, I'll say it. Thank you for your kind words of inspiration.

My fondest memory of rping in a tes game was running around the forest as a bosmer archer hunting deer and boar for their meat and wolf and bears etc for their pelts.
I would look up at the sky and when i saw it was getting dark I would head back to my cabin just south of chorrol.
Eventually when i had gathered enough pelts and game I would head into Chorrol and sell everything to Seed Neeus.

The thing about RP'ing in TES games that I love so much is that you just end up naturally falling into playing your character instead of having to plan everything out like you would in say a WoW RP realm or P&P.

I always like to play the robin hood type myself. However, in no game I can think of has my giving to the few needy folks in the game world changed those npc's lives in any way.. makes me sad. You can give tons of money to beggars in most games. And they'll still be on the street corner begging. Would be nice for once to see random characters you give money to seemingly rise in status in the community. Like just wearing nicer clothes or something.

This. I love RP'ing in WoW and playing D&D but only TES recreates the feeling that your character actually naturally develops a personality all by themselves.

My fondest memory was when playing Drakon ( my Dunmer custom NightBlade class) and finding his first Daedra. Until then I was kinda just thinking of what the character would do. At that moment I heard "Well..This is not going to end well" I sort of 'knew' my character then. His reaction came naturally. Arguably my best TES experience ever.

Man, forget Game of the Year, I'd say it will be Game of the Decade, considering how much I loved Morrowind and Oblivion, at least until ES VI comes out.

Back on topic, yes I love roleplaying in the Elder Scrolls, which is one reason they are my most favorite games. There's just so much to it, you could be almost anything in these games. (It's sort of difficult rping as some careers on the 360 though without console and mods, just gotta be a little more creative.)

You need the right mindset to roleplay with joy.

I'm writing a journal of my character, about his adventures, people he meet, places he visits. I'm new to writing this kind of things, more so that i'm writing it in english that's not my main language. I'm still trying to figure how to make a story of him being a thief, DB assassin, and then a Imperial Legion member and write that in a credible way on his journal...

Simple - chronologically.

If you have the time to join and work for those factions, then your character has time to be full members of those factions.
