Game Of The Year- Even on the PS3

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 8:38 pm

As many PS3 users, I have experienced the dreaded "lag-bug"...but even after suffering this lag I still have to say that Skyrim is one the greatest, most addictive games I have ever played. I never finished the game with my first character (level 48 with a 13 MB save and the lag was too much for me to continue).....so like any rational addict I started a new character (a thief/assassin this time).
Well...I'm level 47, 100+ hours into the game, and my save gave file is only 1MB. I have no clue why the second play-through is so much more stable, but I'm absolutely in love with this game. No lag/b. roken quests etc.

As with all games, Skyrim is not "perfect". It roughly touches the RPG elements, but true role playing, and the effect the characters actions have on the world are sorely lacking. This is my only real complaint now. The pros for this game are far too numerous to list, but some of the cons I have experienced (some very minor) should be openly discussed to help improve the game.
1) Your characters actions have no real effect on the world. This is particularly obvious with the guild accomplishments.
2) Companions should be redone. How awesome would it be to have back stories and quests for your companions (like mass effect 2). I would also love the ability to have more than one companion. The other night I had Brelyna from the mages guild with me, and we were on top of a mountain peak, looking down into a snow filled valley, and I thought to myself "how awesome would it be to have a "party" with me right now...the addition of a warrior to my "party" would have given an epic feeling.
3) guild quests a bit short....well done but short
4) Inability to truly decorate my home....not have the Jarl do it for me.

I'm hoping for the ability to build a home and/or castle. This would be epic. It should be hard, take a long time, cost a lot of money, etc. There should be quests for it, like mining ore, harvesting timber etc. You could also put guards on your payroll, your followers would move in etc. Something similar to Never Winter Nights.

All in all...since the lag issue (for me at least) seems to no longer be a problem I am absolutely loving Skyrim. It's one of the most immersive, addicting, and overall impressive games i have ever played. It's close to perfect...nothing some patches and DLC can't fix. Wish I had it on PC so I could use the mods. BUT...I'm a console player. Whoah is me.

Ehhh... PS3 Skyrim has kind of ruined the game in general for me. I recently upgraded my graphics card to the point where I MIGHT be able to run it on my PC, but the absurdly ridiculous bugs of the PS3 version have soured the game for me. And that's in addition to, as you mentioned, the lack of role-playing elements. I'd still give it GOTY, but only because I hardly play any recent games. I think the only other game from 2011 I played was Infamous 2, no joke.

A game that has save game issues where your long term game may or may not become corrupt can NEVER be considered a game of the year, especially when you figure that alot of people will play a single playthrough for 200 or more hours.

None of the bugs on the PS3 have really bothered me. I still prefer it over my PC version. Although I don't experience many issues. It defiantly deserves GOTY. I'm looking forward to the GOTY addition.

Dark Souls > Skyrim

I got Dark souls for Christmas, I still can't pass the 2nd level :( So damn, hard. It is pretty fun though.

I'm in the same boat as you, I've had some technical problems but even then, I'm loving the game. ended up getting an SSD for my PS3 with x-mas money and it seems to be running much better.

a game which you pay for a doesn't work yeah totally deserves GOTY. the only thing skyrim deserves from ps3 owners is to be refunded.
