Game Update?

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 10:06 pm

I have never had a CTD since playing the game and I noticed about an hr ago it crashed and I see Steam downloading something.

Just curious if this was an issue with my steam re-downloading files or if this was some sort of patch? Is there a download history somewhere in the Steam client that I could check?

thanks in advance

No that's your newest Skyrim game saves being backed up to the Steam cloud. We all get that now unless you are playing off-line.

Unfortunately, the new patch 1.4.27 seems to be bringing CTDs to many who've not suffered them in a long time. I've just had my first CTD with the new patch. But I did have a warning. I am starting to see those old blue/purple texture replacers again like I used to. Be sure to save when you see one of these blurple textures.

Or unless you disable Steam Cloud synchronization for Skyrim. ;) Right click on Skyrim in Steam and select "Properties" -> Updates tab -> Uncheck the "Enable Steam Cloud synchronization..." tickybox.

You can also disable Steam Cloud all together via the Steam settings menu, but I'd recommend only disabling it on a case by case basis. With most games it's quite useful...with Skyrim I find save syncing takes too long and would probably interfere with players who are shuffling mods in and out of their saves regularly, though.

Ok thanks for the replies I will definitely disable the cloud synch for sure. I do not really understand the point of it entirely anyway.

I may just wipe out my Skyrim folder and re-download everything also. Is there any issue with importing a save game to a new installation? I plan on activating all of the previous mods i had that would have been part of that save game so I am hoping that would eliminate any issues as I have 100+hrs tied into this .. .

Steam Cloud serves two main purposes:

1) It backs up your data
2) It enables one to use the same settings and/or saves and/or any other data that's been enabled on another machine

There shouldn't be an issue with importing a save as long as the game is the same version or newer and the mods you're using don't leave effects behind.
