PC Gamepley

A lot has been said about the UI, but the only real problem I have with the game on PC is that y"all seem to think we all have controllers. Most PC game players don't. When it comes to battle, a player needs three hands to handle it effectively. One to control the mouse, to turn around to face the opponent, one to control forward movement, on the WASD or arrow keys, and one to hit the W button to attack. Personally, most of my friends don't have three hands! Did you all not test this part of the game? Bethesda., I realize you don't let independent testers check out your game, I also realize that the people who design your games are the testers (as noted by former employees), but this should have become obvious to even the most diehard sympathizer to y'all. Your movement system is really inadequate. One shouldn't have to use two hands to move around the environment! Instead of using the mouse to turn, use the right and left arrow keys, or the A & D keys. No one needs to take two steps left, which is the default use of those keys!
I have to admit, even though the perk page is magnificent, it is really not user friendly. And we really don't need to mention the inventory page. These need major revampng. Text alone really doesn't work. I realize y'all wanted to be innovative, but we have been playing since EQ1, and have a certain mindset, y'all should cater to that. We need paperdolls, and icons. Deprive of us of them, and we can't handle it, and we get surly!
Check out the comments on other Skyrim pages. Most of the complaints are on the perks page and the inventory. I assume you are hoping mods will save you on this, and, yes, they are, but it would have been better if you had done it yourselves, rather that hoping the modders would fix your problems! I, for one, am sick and tired of game developers putting out less than optimal product in hopes that the modders would fix it. Reeks of laziness on the part of the developers!
Have a good day.

Your joking right? Keyboard and mouse is the most effective way to play, it's the ones with controllers who are slow and get owned more frequently

Playing first-person games with controllers feels like doing brain surgery with a hammer. Skyrim uses the same control setup most FPS games on PC have used since 1996 or so. The better FPS games (eg. DOOM) had essentially the same setup a few years before that.

Attacking/casting is done with the mouse.

its actually been tested which is why very few games do cross platform competition in the fps market a keyboard and mouse with 2000 dpi a ton of buttons easily readjusted and can be utilize for more then one use is more accurate and can pin point more so then controllers.

But on original topic the controls of Skyrim are fine you don't turn left to right with a&d the only game I have played such that had it like that is Gothic 1-2 in both exclusive titles and cross platform for awhile now you have been turning via mouse first person games such as skyrim follows this method as do each battlefield each crysis and each COD.

Depends on what you like, I mean I play myth II on PC and use my right mouse click to attack ground, but my friend he hates it and cant micro mange his units properly and prefers to use ctrl on the keyboard.

Same goes for console/pc its all what your accustomed to.

P.S if you dont know what Myth II soulblighter is I suggest you look it up and educate yourself as your missing out bigtime.

I've been playing Pc games since 1989 or so and i think the ui for Skyrim is great. I've tried ui mods but i keep going back to the original Bethesda interface because of its speed and ease of use. For a supposedly console based ui it is very intuitive and comfortable to use.

sorry but no.. way too many clicks are needed in the orignal UI only game that I can think of atm that is worse is kingdoms of amular and that has pros over Skyrim's system such as using right click to bring up menu and compare to current gear or add to junk. SkyUI beats the original UI period most of all it has search function the most useful part of the entire mod.

It is like typing at first, you learn how to use it over time.

You learn how to handle a different car over time for an example. The controls of a many things are something just learned.

just look at typing, many people teach them selves how to type with out the aid of a class/program. You just learn it over time.

you hit the W button to attack? what?

You sure you didn't just set all your keys to attack and roll your face on your keyboard to play?

and wtf, how come your not using your left foot, like all normal PC gamers do for gaming? jeez

Umm, I think you misread the OP. The complaint is that the UI seems designed for controllers and that it doesn't work well on a PC with mouse & keyboard. A point I agree with, btw. While I've become used to navigating the menus on the PC, dialogue is still a PITA and unreliable (using either WASD or the mouse), and it does take more steps than I'd like to access skills, powers, etc.

Hey, it's true, if I were to verse you with my keyboard and mouse and you with your controller... i would surely win

The original post has been modified since i wrote that, but to be fair tho, I hate moving around the skill trees too

Oh come on. keyboard and Mouse is FAR more efficient to fight and all that. the UI is bad in the menu but that was solved with a mod.

I have left and back pedal and right keys on `Z -X -C` respectively. I have my `\` key as my sheath weapon and `take everything` button. `A` is my map. `S` is my inventory and `D` accesses that Skills screen. All for the left hand.

My right hand Mouse controls my walk, run fight, Use, sneak and zoom out view if I want to see myself in 3rd person (which I USE VERY LITTLE).

This combination is one I have used for years and is very automatic for me. I guarantee were I taking on a guy playing the same game with any gamepad controller he would have to be on his TOP form to beat me. Seriously a Gamepad cannot beat a Mouse+ keyboard custom combo.

And it`s a very natural feel too as long as you have a comfortable midrange keyboard.

Ever heard of circle strafing, OP?

On the other hand, during loading screens, I would like to use a-d to rotate models. It is clunky with the mouse.

Also the keyboard and mouse are separate selectors, and mostly keyboard selection overrides mouse selection. It is very annoying. Going from inventory to magic is also very weird. I noticed the edges are sensitive to mouse but you can sometimes click those areas accidentally too. A visual effect would be nice. I personally put right hand to right mouse button and tab to middle mouse button.

I want pressure sensitivity for certain keys on keyboards too. I want to control my walk speed like in anolog controllers. That would be cool.

Having a ability bar that actually showed what damn skill was in which slot would have been nice and made things alot better, using the abortion that was the favourite menu was a damn joke and PC players should never have to use it with the range of keys we have. And the menu system do not even get me started I thought The WItcher 2's menu's were pretty bad but Skyrims take the cake.

fine-grain control on controller svck.
games like fps ported onto console, the dev need to implement some auto-aim feature to assist those aiming.

on pc, it can be fully depend on where you aim using your mouse.

just imagining the couter strike.

they have to put in this auto-assist-aiming feature on console, as it's part of the device limitation.

console is mean for arcade.

simple as that.

I like the Xbox controller. I get why there's an auto aim for games like Battlefield and yeah its a little silly.

But Skyrim is hardly that dramatic in terms of combat pace and precision. The controller works fine for Skyrim and is quite comfortable IMO.

The mouse offers mobility limited only by your hands and the keyboard offers much more controls than any console controller.
