RULES:
Copy the previous poster's list, and add your own. If someone ninja's you, please edit your post.
To keep things from getting entirely out of hand I'd ask you to limit your additions to 10 or less.
(Wow. I left off a bunch of stuff. Well... that's what the rest of you are for!! I'm excited to see what ya'll add.)
In order of date played:
Super Mario Bros - My first game, and it holds a special place in my heart. Games everywhere can thank the fat lil plumber for opening the door to millions. If you play games, you owe it to the industry to play and beat this game. No warps.
Dragon Warrior - My first RPG. This game defined the genera for me, as whole. It's roots can see be found in modern RPG's like Mass Effect and Skyrim.
Super Metroid - The first game I played with an expanding map. This completely changed the way I played and looked at games. It combined aspects of my two favorite styles: Action and RPG. Granted the RPG aspects of the game were limited, but the basics are there.
Chrono Trigger - The first game I played with a story that made me care. Up until this game was released, I needed no more motivation than "BAD STUFF!! KILL IT!!" With character development, plot, twists, multiple endings, strong combat and a good (original) script - this game changed they way we look at games. Again.
(Many people will come at me and say that FF2 would have been a better pick, for my reasons. Well I played CT first. So there.)
Final Fantasy 7 - The pinnacle of JRPGs. It's all down hill from here.
I'M NOT SAYING THE OTHER GAMES IN THE GENERA ARE BAD. They just did not do anything that FF7 did not do - first. And some of them actually are quite bad. *cough*12*Cough**Cough*
Baldur's Gate - The first RPG I played with incredible complexity and programmed here in the good ole US of A. The start of a rock solid company and my favorite game makers to date.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - Hands down one of my favorite games of all time. I love everything about it! The game play, the music, the style, the story, the difficulty... It's just GREAT.
Morrowind - You know why this game is a must play. It's the first truly open world game and a HUGE mile-store for gaming.
Dark Souls - The most difficult game I've played - to date. It's incredibly tough but, as such, it's the most satisfying game I've ever played.
Skyrim - The pinnacle of gaming. So far.
