Unclellama:
Its not an awful game, it's just difficult to play without wanting to play Civ4 instead. War AI is a joke, which never used to matter that much because the AI just build huge stacks which were dangerous just by brute force, but with the new 1 unit per turn system you can decimate much bigger AI armies simply by not doing stupid stuff. There's generally less to do, the social policy system is IMHO less fun than actually being able to change government type a la Civ4, and the diplomatic AI can be strange (I quite like that it occasionally backstabs, but it seems to do so at random and not when it's at an advantage).

The latest patch may have fixed all of this, but by now I've lost interest. Still play Civ4 now and then.

Ratslayer:
Why didnt you like the halo games ?
Red dead was good, but not worth the £40 I spent on day one, allthough that helped me avoid spoilers giving a great ending, but the multiplayer is crap and nothing to do after completing the main quest. I got all the dlc (was on offer, 1000 for it all seemed good) but damn undead nightmare is over rated. Havent picked the game up in ages.
Thanks for reminding me about ME2, I regret buying it, disliked the story, hated the gameply, its supposed to be an rpg, I could have bought better tps games.

I always played the Halo game for the story of Master Chief. In 2-3 the story was incredibly lacking and the games were heavily focused on MP. It turned me off to the games. I got OSDT at the request of some friends and felt it was horrid overall.

It was gonna be New Vegas, but I grew a pair and started fixing the problems. People underestimate though that half the crashes and bugs are their computers too, NV runs like a champ for me with only a few hiccups and freezes time to time.

Thought recently there is no regrettable purchases, but in the past (All I have now is a PC and Wii):

Most of my GameCube games (WindWaker was the only fun one IMO)

All the GTA's for PS2

and thats all I can think of, my Gameboy game I loved and N64 games were...awesome :D

Just today Empire Earth III, which as mentioned in the previous thread is my most regrettable game purchase, went into a box for my aunt's garage sale next week.

I'm going to see if I can trick some poor bastard into at least giving me some of my money back.

Another purchase I regret was Mothership Zeta, the DLC for Fallout 3. Utter [censored]-fest, only good that came out of it was some fun weapons.

Said it in the last thread, but i'll say it again because it was THAT disappointing - Lord of the Rings: Conquest. Such a poorly made game.

Close runner-up would be Starcraft II. Love RTS games, didn't play the original but eventually gave into all the hype. Extremely disappointing. Seemed far too simplistic.

In regards to LotR Conquest: I enjoyed it for a decent chunk. It was cool that you could become a Balrog(iirc) and terrorize the Shire, but it was mostly fail.

SC2 wasn't as good as the first. I like what the did with the graphics, but the completely ruined custom games when they took out lobbies.

Fable 3. For all the crap people have given the Fable series, it's actually been one of my favorites... up till the third one.

I quit once you become king. What really bothered me was that

Spoiler
Saving the world(without massive, massive casualties), without doing some ridiculous grinding/leaving the xbox on overnight(fun!), basically requires your character to become "evil." HOW IS TIGHTENING YOUR BELTS FOR A YEAR EVIL?!!! YES, I WANT TO RAISE TAXES AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE. . . CAUSE WE'LL ALL BE KILLED IF I DON'T! When we DON'T have a giant monster coming to kill us, we can lower the taxes. And why doesn't my character explain this to everyone?! It seems like banding the kingdom together to fight a cosmic horror would kinda solve the whole "he's a power-hungry tyrant!" PR-issue.

So yeah. . . that whole issue annoyed me to the point that I just quit out of frustration. There was a lot of potential for the game to actually explore various moral dilemmas and ambiguities associated with being king. . . of course, that would require them to get rid of the whole good/evil false-dichotomy. Or, at the very least, make it so that the choices aren't linked to
Spoiler
saving the world, which kinda screws the whole thing up.

Easily one of the most disappointing games I've played.

The worst part is, I liked it up untill I got to the ending. I loved the setting and style of it, the combat and general gameplay was what I was used to from Fable and didn't really bother me, not great, but it didn't bother me. The ending though, my god that was awful.

I'll just say it right now. If I was in that situation, you can bet your ass I would do the "evil" things. Anything else would be completely insane.

Fallout 3

At first it seemed good. The writing they had for James was great but as the story went on it pretty much became crap. There is also the issue of the leveling balance that was pretty much broken.

Though, I do have to say The Pitt was awesome and had the main game been more like that it would have been much much better and that part I do not regret buying or playing.

The Orange box-I really didn't like half life 2 it was boring and just wasn't fun. I enjoyed Portal and I never tried Team Fortress 2.

Battlefield: Bad Company- that game was so repetitive it was basically: drive here-encounter enemies on the way-blow stuff up-the end... :flame:

Ridge Racer 7- *sigh* why...

TES: Oblivion- I thought I'd pick this up seeing as I loved Fallout: 3 so much, but I was very wrong. I only played about 3 hours. 3 hours of my life I'll never get back. :(

The Orange Box: I would get it just for Portal. Never played the other two.

Battlefield: Didn't play Bad Company, but wasn't a fan of 2. Probably won't get 3.

Ridge Racer: Haven't had a RR game since original Playstation, and that game was awesome.

Oblivion: Most people I talk to that go in that order don't like Oblivion either.

Personally, I haven't really bought a game I regretted buying because I research games quite a bit before I buy them. I guess I could say Brink but not because I didn't like the game, it was because I got it to play with my friends and they all hated it so I was left alone playing slightly laggy matches against randoms just going for kills.

I liked it, but it's also my first Fallout game, so the experience is fresh. Some people say it's not different enough from Fallout 3, so I can understand why someone who plays 3 first might not like it as much.

DragonAgeOrigins extremely linear and repetitive gameplay. the only point in starting a new game in DA:O is to just to the origin quest, the rest is almost exactly the same.

Splinter Cell: Essentials - I am convinced this the worst game ever made.

From the ridiculous loading times, pathetic attempt at a multiplayer, and awful camera control, I can't help but wonder why I handed my $10 to that cashier.

And I find this absolutely funny about the game -- I can't count how many times I've ended up lost in some levels due to extreme blackness they seem to portray. And backtracking never helped, cause I could never tell where I was going sometimes. I literally couldn't finish the game because of this.

Far Cry 2 - I know there's a Far Cry 3 on the horizen. . . I don't care. This game has ruined the series for me.

Dragon Age 2. Do I even need to go into detail? :brokencomputer:

I expected a great RPG that would equal or be close to the masterpiece that was Dragon Age Origins. Instead I received a rushed POS that had more bugs than a beehive, was so linear that I grew bored within the first hour which never occurred in DAO, the battles are repetitive and don't even get close to that epic feeling I got from DAO, the reuse of areas was atrocious, and last but not least the story was boring and never dragged me in which made Hawke such a boring character when compared to how I could create the Warden. Not to mention how rude, childish, and downright totalitarian the devs are in running their forums makes me glad they unjustly banned me. It makes me sad to see Bioware die but at least I can see them for the true snakes they really are. :toughninja:

Besides that, the only other game was Spider-Man 3: the Movie Game since I thought it would be like Spider-Man 2 :spotted owl:

Oblivion. Not that I really regret buying it, but that I regret pre-ordering it/buying it right away instead of waiting for a price drop. I was way overhyped for it and I wish I wouldn't have been. Because of that and the high expectations I had for it, I was seriously let down. Though now, with all the mods that are out for it, I can actually enjoy it.

I feel the same way. The ending was such a slap in the face; luckily I read guides ahead of time so I saved up enough so I didn't have to resort to as many evil choices as other people might have made (only increased taxes).
Spoiler
I also didn't like there was absolutely NO explanation for the Crawler. They just popped out, without warning, with no lore to explain the wherefores. I mean, what the hell? It feels like the only reason they did that was to provide a motive to the Hero's brother that made him seem sympathetic, if lawful stupid, instead of a lawful evil bastard.

I'm just so tired of games where the morality is black and white. :/ I was also disappointed in how short it was. It didn't feel that different in gameplay from Fable II either. I enjoyed spellweaving though. Plus, after completing the MQ it's just not that playable anymore. :/

Exactly, and that's what drove me insane about it. It reminds me of those awful sitcom episodes where the "humor" comes from blindingly obvious miscommunication. Beyond the fact that your character wouldn't have a revolution to lead, there's no reason that the brother should have been viewed as a tyrant, and why he didn't just tell everyone why he's being such an [censored] is beyond me

I was fixing to say "Dude, the mods. Get some mods." 'Cause vanilla OB is meeeeeh.

I initially regretted getting DA2 because the demo was terribad. I completed the game, and although I LOATHED the combat and the stylistic art changes (seriously, the elves are ass-ugly and anorexic-looking, and no auto-attack? WTF were you thinking, Bioware?!) and the repetitive places. However, I really like the story; it's a complete deconstruct of the http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BigBad and it's far less white and black than Origins was as far as morality goes.

Spoiler
Meredith is still a jerk though.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2P73gDOKz7Q I was so horrible bad at this game. And, worse, my friend was better at it than I was. So I broke it across my forehead one day. He came over to play it, asked where it was, and I handed him the pieces. It was very satisfying to see the look of dismay on his face. He had almost beat it.

Mean bastard? Sometimes.
